1971 Volkswagen DUNE BUGGY SPORT Description

DUNE BUGGY

Believed to be an early & historic Kellison body produced from the late ‘60s to early ‘70s and mounted on what appears to be a rust free 1971 VW Karman Ghia chassis, this buggy has a lot going for it. There is a ball joint front end and an independent rear suspension system unlike the earlier “swing axle” and offers excellent handling and road ability as well as straight and true braking action.

The following items are either new or professionally rebuilt:

  • The engine is a fresh ’71 VW air cooled dual port that has a camshaft of unknown lift and duration with a displacement of 1600CC or greater. I don’t know the bore or stroke of the engine after rebuild but the power is significant. The compression is 130 lbs. all around which is one third OVER a new stock engine indicating that modifications have been made during its rebuild.

  • front disc brakes, & rear drum brakes with new brake lines and stainless steel flex hoses,

  • It is currently running a pair of brand new model 34 style carbs designed for the new dual port heads.

  • The distributer is a 009 with mechanical advance for performance and is equipped with electronic ignition.

  • There are NO OIL LEAKS anywhere!

  • New tires front and rear

  • Removable hard top

  • Empi short throw quick shifter

  • Absolutely rust free pan

  • Very comfortable driver and passenger seating

  • All lights, wipers, horn, turn signals and other accessories are in working order

  • All new dual carb set-up (dual 34’s)

This buggy is a very roadworthy vehicle at highway speeds or around town. It has been quality built through out. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have. The buggy is located in SW New Hampshire.
