1990 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Description
Hello,
We're selling our beloved 1990 2.1L Vanagon Carat. This car has been mostly driven on weekends since the Summer of 2015 around the city and on road trips. Unfortunately our newly adopted neighborhood has crazy side street cleaning rules and now I'm forced to move it from one side of the street to another 3 times a week (Mon-Fri).
Additionally I simply just do not have any time to continue the upkeep of this 25+ year old van. If you are familiar with these Vanagons, you know exactly what I am talking about.

Now that you got some overall idea about these vans and still considering buying this one, here are the specs:
It's 2WD 2.1L with an estimated mileage of 170k - 180k. The odometer was broken when I bought the van in July 2015. It has been fixed since.
Needs Attention (eventually):
Small Water/Oil leak (drips from old engine seals)
Minor front noise (bushings/sway/something around that area)
Exhaust leak
Idles a bit rough on stop lights during really cold weather (it's sporadicwhich makes it hard to troubleshoot when brought to a specialist on multiple occasions).

As you can see, a LOT of *NEW* parts have been installed since we bought it in summer 2015. None of them are "refurbished" or "rebuilt". New and high quality OEM or "almost OEM like" parts from reputable distributorslike GoWesty, VanCafe, and BesDepot.
Lots of hard work, money, time, tears, and, love went into this van. My family is sad to let it go but the van needs to be driven and continued with restoration.
Lastly, I want to make it clear: you are looking into a 25+ year old van that is $10,000. It is not perfect. No Vanagon in this price range is "worry free" and /or "needs nothing". The "worry free" and "perfect" Vanagons are completely restored (with Subaru or TDI conversion) and will run you at least $25,000+. Syncros will run $45,000 - $70,000+. Don't believe anyones BS that their $7,000 Vanagon is a million mile roadtrip ready. There is always something that needs attention in Vanagons. It is an ongoing project (just like any classic car).
