1970 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic Description

I tried doing a no reserve starting at 1 dollar for 7 days but ebay is filled with bidders who have no intention on paying so unfortunately I am now forced to relist the item as a buy it now requiring immediate payment in order to find someone whos actually interested and not just bidding for fun. The previous auction ended at $4600.00 so I’m listing the car at $4000.00 buy it now. I think that price is very very low and will hopefully find a buyer quickly. Several people were bidding near this price. You can come see the car anytime and I’ve done everything I can to describe the good and the bad. Any questions please ask

I bought this car on November 11th 2008 as a rat rod. The top was already cut down, the doors were already filled and the supports were in place. After a year of driving it we decided to turn it into the car you see now. To say this is a head turner would be an understatement. You can’t drive this car or trailer it anyplace without getting smiles, stares or conversation. Everything is either new, replaced, rebuilt or custom fabricated. The last 4 years it’s only seen the road twice and that was for a car show where it won first place both times. Over the last 2.5 years it’s been sitting in a garage covered. Last week we pulled it out, got it running, cleaning it up and now it’s being listed here for sale. NO RESERVE

Titled as a 1970 VW this permanent convertible started life as a sedan. The top was cut, the doors were filled and supports were welding in place to make sure this show stopper didn’t fold under any pressure. Here’s some details both good and bad.

The bad – (1) The electrical is a mess. The headlights, tail lights, dash do not work. Under the hood is a mix of cut and spliced wires. It really should be rewired but it starts, runs, drives, shifts, stops as it should. The air bag suspension also works flawlessly. (2) The motor was pulled and freshened up in 2008 with only 50 miles but its dripping oil now. Again you can drive it but the motor does have an oil leak. (3) No radio or speakers

The Good – It sat for 2.5 years and we got it up and running within 15 minutes. The motor Runs Strong once warmed up but needs some tapping on the accelerator to keep it running when first started. The Transmission shifts with no issues. The air compressor, air bag suspension and switches all work no issues.

Ne, replace, fabricate, custom details about the car.

  • All New interior. Looks new no wear what so ever (front seats are brand new not just covers.)
  • Wide fenders all the way around
  • New rims and tires (still some dimples on the tread they are that new)
  • Front disc conversion
  • NEW narrowed from beam
  • Completely custom air ride suspension with gauges, 10 switch box, chrome tank and bump stops
  • All bushings, linkage, tie rods, etc are new
  • Brake lines
  • Rebuilt motor (even with the oil leaks)
  • Head light, LED tail lights
  • The VW clearly has thousands in fabrication and parts but it still needs to be gone over before driving it any long distances. It’s been sitting for 2.5 years before last week. We’ve driven it a few miles and not had any issues but just to be safe you’ll need a trailer to transport. (again no roof so make sure it’s sunny or bring something enclosed.)

All pictures below are from today. All good and bad. The paint looks great but it’s not flawless. The rear trunk had a piece of metal under the carpet. I’ve removed it to show you the cuts and rust holes in the trunk area. The frame, heater channels, pans etc all look great. It’s just the trunk area with the holes.

Why am I selling the car> The biggest reason is I just don't drive it. I've lost interest in owning the car and I now have 2 small children so this car doesn't fit my lifestyle any longer. I sold this car yesterday to someone who clearly had no intention on paying for the car as an auction. I also had several other bidders above this price. I personally think this price is low but I'm hopeful it leaves room for the new owner to complete what's needed and still feel like they got a good deal. The suspension alone cost me $3400.00 and the procar Scat Interior was another $1200.00 before you factor in the wide fenders, motor, rims, tires, custom work to make it a convertible etc etc.

please message me if you have any questions. More pics and videos below.
