1973 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic Description

1973 two owner Standard Beetle.

The original owner purchased this car new from a Volkswagen dealer in Texas. The car has been driven and maintained by the original owners in Blacksburg, Virginiasince 1982. I bought the car in thesummer of 2011 and it has remained in the Blacksburg Virginia are, always parked in a garage. Full detailed documentation included!

Here are the condition details:

Brakes:

Rebuilt pedal assembly

Drivetrain:

Good running stock 1600 Dual Port motor.

Electrical:

All interior/exterior lights work

Original AM/FM radio still functional, with a new speaker installed in 2012.

New battery in 2012.

Body:

Very solid body and chassis.

Paint is presentable with average wear and aging associated with an older respray. Original color is Texas Yellow with closely matched respray in 2015. The paint isn't perfect by any means, it displays a little orange peel, but is still very presentable. The area behind the front doors and rear valence panel under the rear deck lid are primed, but not color painted.

Original floor pans are still very solid. The interior surfaces were cleaned and wire brushed, then coated with a few coats of Rustoleum primer and top coat. The underside of the floor pans require the same treatment, but only shows surface rust.

Fully rebuilt door trim with new scrapers and window seals from California Pacific.

New hood and deck-lid seals

New fender beading

New quality running boards from the Bus Depot.

Bumper brackets were sand blasted and powder coated, original bumpers were cleaned and the backsides painted with POR 15 rust preventative coating.

All doors/keys work

Body is very straight with all original body panels. Some sections in the wheel wells, the rusted portions were cut out and new steel panels were welded in and coated with primer and paint. The cross-members under the rear seat were removed with new metal rear cross-members welded in and seam sealer used over the welds. The running board fastening panels were repaired with new metal and painted to match the car. I have new running boards waiting to be installed.

Interior:

Front seats were rebuilt with new pads, new TMI covers and new side covers.

Rear seat needs covers.

Nice, clean and straight original door panels.

Original Volkswagen rubber floor mats

Nice original headliner, some small tears under the rear window from age.

New sunvisors

Refinished, powder coated Emergency brake lever.

Cleaned and lubricated window regulators and door latch mechanisms

Original dash in nice condition

Asking $6500.00 or best offer. The Hagerty Valuation tool values this vehicle between $5,000 to $9,100, (A #4 "Fair" rated condition to a #3 "Good" rated condition). I believe the value of this car is a fair mix between the two conditions.

Odometer shows 39,000 miles, but was repaired in 2011 with a minimum number of miles driven since that date. I am still trying to determine the actual mileage of the vehicle and will ask the original owner to estimate how many miles she drove over the years. The original owner commuted to work only 1.5 miles in each direction for a number of years. I estimate the actual mileage on the car is just under 100,000 miles.
