1978 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic Convertible Description

If you have been looking for a convertible super beetle for a restoration project don't miss out on this beauty!
We picked this car up at auction a few years ago it had been sitting in this guys barn for well over a decade or maybe even 2. It was shown at the time to start and stop as well to drive forward and reverse. With a complete tune-up the car is expected to still be a strong runner and only needs cosmetic repairs to make it shine again. It is very possible the odometer is accurate. We found paperwork in the car from the original owner showing the car being purchased at a Seattle VW dealer and the original walk through that was done checking off all the cars included features and items. There is also the original owners manual as well as the other books included with the car when new. The last receipt in the records was for a life time warranty receipt from Midas Muffler showing an exhaust that was bought for and installed on the car in 1983. It was estimated the car was in storage by 1990 or so laying in wait for someone to give it the love it needs to come back to life as the classic this car is and ever harder getting to find in this stock condition. The service records book shows the car was taken into the dealer and stamped off on as part of the warranty portion of the paperwork we found. This car is a little gem that was only owned by 2 people and was parked in storage to sit for longer than it was driven on the road locally here in the Seattle area. The bug is all stock all original white 1978 Volkswagen Super Beetle with black convertible top and black vinyl interior. Body is extremely straight besides two small dents in the front driver's side fender. Engine is strong and car drove forward, backwards, and stopped when parked years ago. Would look decent with an extreme detail, interior has lots of cob webs and mildew but is in decent shape for being 40 years old. Could be an easy restoration back to all original being its all stock and looks like original paint color and has almost all its stock trim and parts in good condition just really dirty from sitting for years unused. A thorough detail, new battery, and tune up and the car should be road worthy but really should be considered for a complete restoration project. There is very little rust on this car compared to most VWs this age. There is a hole on the rear passenger side where the battery is but this is common in almost everyone of these cars unless it has already been repaired. They make a pan repair kit available for pretty cheap where you can just splice in a portion to fix the hole or cut out the entire passenger side and drop in the new pan repair panel, a few spot welds and some seam sealer and its good as new with a completely stock look. We had always planned to do a complete custom restoration but have never made the time, so before it starts to rust and get really bad we figured it be best to let it go to someone who will take the time to give it the attention this classic deserves. If you have shopped around for these types of cars you have seem them go completely restored from any where between $10-$20,000 and more. There was a '57 that sold on eBay a few months ago for $120,000. We have been restoring cars for 20+ years and if you want some of the repairs completed before you pick it up we will consider restoring as much of this car as you want. For example if you wanted the car to have the motor pulled cleaned, tuned-up and repainted to look new again, have the body and pan bodywork and repainted, new convertible top, and stock vinyl interior so the car is basically restored and looking very clean and stock inside and out you would be looking around $10,000 on top of the purchase price (this is just an estimate if once the car is taken apart and any issues arise we would hault work show you what was discovered and give you all your options you have to restore the car correctly, we do not cut corners nor do we do any hack work and if that is what you are looking for is price over quality I would refer you to Maaco). There are custom shops that build show cars and would charge you 5x that amount, just like there are crappy body shops like Maaco whom perform the cheapest paint jobs all around but you will get what you pay for in how well it looks and how long it lasts. We would be willing to complete as much or as little of the restoration as you need to be completed by someone and have it ready for delivery either completed or ready for you to take over this project at what ever point you feel comfortable with.
