1971 VW Karmann Ghia Convertible
1971 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Convertible Description
Good, solid, unrestored Karman Ghia. This car is a lot of fun to drive. Bought it from a California seller in 2010 and had it shipped to Minnesota. Had the engine cleaned, installed a Clarion sound system that is CD/USB/MP3/WMA capable. Drove it for 3 summers, around town and around the state. Stored it under car cover in winter. The unibody and frame are straight. The convertible top is in good shape and seals tight, it was replaced buy the guy I bought it from. The paint is not original and poorly done. Anything that looks rough and cracking on the body is the poor paint job cracking and lifting up. The best thing about the paint is that it has prevented future rust. There is only one spot of serious rust on the rear drivers side that is maybe 3 inches. A car hauler didn't wait for the key and broke the steering wheel mounts, so they will need replacing. I had a new key made using the drivers door lock and then someone stole the handle out of the car, that will also need replacing, along with the glove compartment latch. The car has sun damage from how it was parked in California. The dash was baked and the paint on the trunk lid. The rear widow flips down for more ventilation. Heat channels still work and are not rusted out. It has a modern 12 volt electric and take a stranded battery. Has disc brakes. The car has begun to lose power, the engine sounds fine, I think it just needs a good going over. The floor pans need replacing. The car is mostly original and is in need of and ready for a good simple restoration. This Ghia comes with the original jack and also an extra air filter. I love this car but have moved on to other things. Bid with confidence, she is a diamond in the rough.VIN 1412201759Feel free to ask questions, will answer promptly also have more pics if you want to see them.
