84 VW Volkswagen Westfalia camper van Vanagon 4 speed new tires, brakes calipers
1984 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Westfalia camper Description
This Van runs and drives great. I've owned and maintained this vehicle for more than 9 years. I've taken it on trips spanning different cities in Pa, New York and Virginia. It's been to DC, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. It's been my second vehicle, licensed inspected and generally garage kept since I bought it. I've kept up with the general maintenance on this Van. In the past 2 years I've changed the plugs, wires, Fuel filter, Oxygen sensor, new front calipers and brake pads (the rear pads have less than 10,000 miles) and it's been about 800 miles since the last oil and filter change. The tires are almost new (as can be seen in the pics) They are Nexen and are one of the top rated tires for Vanagons. Only 101,600 miles and this van still has it's original paint, touched up in a few spots but there is no body filler or rot anywhere on it, just a few small spots of light surface rust. The white paint is chalky but the satin black paint on the bottom and around the windows is in better condition.Hopefully it can be seen in the pics that the undersides of this van are virtually rust free.
You can see in the pics that the tent top is currently removed. I just got a brand new replacement top but have not yet installed it, I am including it along with the original top.The factory propane tank will most likely need to be replaced because the inspection tag is long out of date and I could not find a place that would fill it. I am including an extra fill valve as well because I don't believe the old one is any good.
Some other things this van has are as follows: Relay kit and cables for a second battery which goes behind the driver's seat, extend a stay propane kit, second fold out table with the factory mount (not seen in pics) which attaches behind the driver's seat, full set of front and side window snap on privacy curtains and all of the hardware and screws needed to reinstall the tent top. I bought a new water pump for the sink several years ago and it's barely used.
Now the bad news: 2 months ago, my Vanagon has developed a starting condition. Sometimes it will start on the first crank, sometimes it takes about 4 tries and a little playing with the gas and sometimes the starter cranks and cranks and it will not fire at all. It's recently gotten worse, to the point where if I can't get it to fire, I have to spray 2 shots of ether down the intake to get it going. Once started, it runs fine and will start back up more easily unless it sits for a few hours. I am confident that I will not be stranded but this is definitely a problem that I would not want to let go. The engine does have an oil leak that brings down the oil level enough that it has to be checked about once every hundred miles. This vehicle is by no means perfect but it's been well taken care of and is in pretty much as original condition as you will find. I posted a video link of me starting and driving it .

Through some research, I've found a few possibilities of the difficult starting issues, it may be the mass air flow sensor, it may be a ground wire or it's possible that it's something called the temp sensor II which is located on something called a cold start valve. This may be an easy fix for someone who knows VW's better than I do. I am not selling it because of the starting issue, the only reason I am selling my Westfalia is because I realize that I barely put any miles on it in the past 2 years and I need my garage space to start working on my other classic cars. I've had some local people interested in buying this vehicle for a long time, it's just a matter of getting an offer that I am comfortable with because I really love this Van and am having a hard time letting it go.
I sold this van on ebay a few weeks ago but the person who bought it was never following through with payment so we mutually agreed to cancel it. If I do not sell it this time, I am going to put it away until I have more time.A few other things to add, I will require a deposit of $500 within 24 hours of the end of the auction and that the final value be paid in full within the following week. This Van is being sold as is no return. I encourage you to come and see it for yourself if you are planning on bidding. If you have any questions, my phone # is 570 459 5142.
