1976 Volkswagen Beetle-New -- Description
1976 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible Red / Black 57,730 Miles Fuel-Injected 1600cc Flat 4 / 4spd Manual VIN: 773-273-8257 Evolve Motors and Chicago Car Club are pleased to present this 1976 VW Beetle Cab! This is a car we knew about for a long, long time prior to actually purchasing it last month. This ‘76 Beetle has belonged to a friend of ours at the shop since he purchased it from the original owner back in 1983. It was painted at our shop, Albany Auto Chicago, in 2006 and has resided on the Southern Michigan coastline ever since. It has always been a garage-kept summer driver and the cosmetic condition of the car speaks to that. After purchasing the car in Michigan we drove it three hours back to Chicago on the highway without a hiccup. This car is in great cosmetic and mechanical order and is ready to be enjoyed by its next owner. The Exterior: Red over black is a nice looking color combo on these cars. Red paint shines bright and shows very few blemishes or signs of age. There are no spots of aging clear coat, paint fade, or paint run. Paint was done right, having been painted at Albany Auto Chicago in 2006, now Yelp’s top-rated body shop in Chicago. Body is in excellent shape as well, with just one very, very light ding on the forward portion of the driver rear fender. There are a couple half-inch scratches and small chips on the lower corners of the fenders, though again very, very light. Chrome pieces are all intact and in nice shape. All lights and glass are clear and crack-free. Many of the exterior pieces like the wipers, bumper mounts, and weatherstripping are new. Wheels are in nice shape, with no curb rash or anything of the sort. Tires have tons of tread left, but the DOT number indicates that they are from 2005, so they should probably be replaced before too too long. Black convertible top is in excellent shape, with no fading or damage in the slightest, and is watertight. Hood and deck lid open and close without any obstruction; many of these cars have trouble with the bonnet kissing the bumper. The Interior: The interior presents exceedingly well. Black leatherette seats are close-to-new, as are the door panels and black carpeting. We love the simple, bare-bones interiors of these cars. All gauges are functional, as are wipers, lights, signals, fan, defrost, analog clock, and radio. Doors open and close without a fuss, and front and rear windows roll up and down without any trouble. Odometer reads 57,370 and is functional. Mileage is believed accurate, based on the known history of the car and visible mechanical wear consistent with the mileage. Under the Hood / Under the Car: As this is a 1976 model, this car is equipped with a fuel-injected 1600cc air-cooled flat-4, using Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection. This car retains its original motor, which, while not massively powerful at just about 50hp, is good enough to keep up with traffic both around town and on the interstate. The car pulls through all four gears without any hesitation and feels very comfortable at speed. The car always fires right up first turn of the key, shifts nice and smoothly, and tracks and brakes straight. The car truly has to be driven on a nice day with the top down to be fully appreciated. On a sunny summer day, there aren’t many other cars I’d rather parade around town in. Underneath, the car looks pretty good. All structural components are nice and solid. We do note some surface rust, but nothing of any real concern. Please take a good look through the photos, as the car is documented in detail. This car will come with a number of service receipts, which date back to 1985, including a 2011 service during which the car received new outer tie rods.
