1961 Volkswagen Other Original Description

This 1961 Volkswagen Single Cab Transporter spent most of its early life on the West Coast before being fully restored in 2009. The VW was rust free and a perfect starting point for a ground up restoration. The current owner, The Wilson Collection, purchased the Transporter in essentially the same condition as seen in the photographs, having only completed details to transform the VW into concours condition. After buying the Transporter in August, 2010 and shipping it to Jupiter Florida it was determined that Paul Willison of Brumos Racing fame and currently Willison-Werkstatt would be engaged to bring the VW up to acceptable standards.The VW was purchased and intended to be used as the support vehicle for the Porsche 804 Grand Prix car being built from the ground up by the talented staff at The Wilson Collection. The attached pictures show the 804 livery on the sides of the VW. This livery was removed for a complete detail, identical livery has been ordered and will be installed. All mechanicals have either been rebuilt or replaced and everything on the Transporter works as it should. The VW is 100% complete, needs absolutely nothing and can be driven anywhere with confidence. Direction has changed with the 804 project, a Blue Bird bus is being converted to transport the Grand Prix car to the race track.It is amazing when this VW is displayed at Cars & Coffee events as almost everyone in attendance walks past more exotic vehicles to see the immaculate Transporter! This is the perfect compliment to an established Porsche collection or simply satisfying the dream of owning the VW you wanted in your youth.The VW Transporter is part of The Wilson Collection. The Wilson Collection consists of 116 historically significant vehicles and is maintained by a full time staff of 8 employees.
