1964 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic Description
I have only owned this car for less than a year, I purchased it with the intent of driving it for the summer and then having some metal work done on it in the future. I now need my garage back for my wife's car as winter is coming and we don't have the space for 2 convertibles.I did not do the original restoration on this car, I believe it was done in the mid 90's as fenders are an Italian type that were sold in the mid 90's. The pictures will give a good idea of what the car is. I am going to state in fact as much as I know about the car to give you a good idea of what it is.
Positive:the car is presentable and has decent interior and the paint is also OK, but not show quality it appears to be a single stage shot. the car appears to have been resprayed the original color of pacific L398. the shots under the deck lid and bonnet appear to be the original paint color on the underside. the car has a new top professionally installed by an interior shop in Montana. the car has also had a new wiring harness installed by a professional mechanic and all the electrical seems to work with the exception of the radio which appears to still be 6 volt and the dome light which I am not sure if it was ever wired in when the top was installed. the car runs well though there is a slight miss in the carburetor when accelerating, I believe the jet may be a little clogged. the brakes are good, but the car does seem to pull slightly to the right when braking I believe the brakes may need bleed.car has been converted to 12 volt system. This is a numbers matching car. pan numbers match body numbers.
Negatives:
there is typical convertible rust that was not addressed before car was painted, as a result I have no idea what is under the paint on this car as I did not do the restoration. There is a bubble on the rear deck lid that is about the size of a nickle by the vents on the rear deck lid, I have included a picture, but it is not obvious unless you are right on the car looking for defects. there is rust in the pan in the battery area as pictured, and the drivers portion of the pan was replaced, but not properly welded in ( I believe it is held in with rivets). there is also some rust in the bottom of the heater channels. eventually there will need to be some metal work done on this car, it is a shame that the person who did the restoration did not do the metal work before applying paint. there is also a slight wrinkle in the front clip as pictured. I am guessing that front bumper was hit before paint was applied as bumpers are European and not american style, but front hood is original paint leading me to believe that wrinkle in front clip was caused by slight impact that front bumper absorbed and possibly a fender. front bonnet shows no signs of impact. Only other thing I can think of is that one of the rear fenders is an american style and one is European style.if you are local I would encourage you to come and inspect the car
I am hoping that the pictures show most of the details of the things that I have described. overall this is a great car to drive and enjoy, but long term I think it would be wise to complete the needed metal repairs. I am selling this car as a no reserve as I would like to reclaim my garage, so bid knowing that if you bid you may win. I reserve the right to end auction early.
