1966 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic Description

It's time for the family '66 VW to pass on to the next family of VW lovers.
Been in the family since 1973. Mild custom with lowered suspension. Restored in 1996. Refreshed in 2008 with new rag top, tires and brake job. Less than 100 miles on top end overhaul of +0.030 1600CC motor. New battery in Feb 2015. Just passed Texas state safety inspection without a comment. Everything works. Steering tight. Brakes don't pull. Tranny and clutch tight. Only driven to cruise-ins and car shows. The chrome on the four wheels looks pretty good for them being 20 years old. Drives smooth - no wobble from the tires or wheels.
The VW was in California and Arizona from 1973 through 2006, in Florida from 2006-2008, Maryland 2008-2014 and in Ft Worth since 2014 when my 82 year-old father-in-law gave it to me. I personally drove it from Miami to Washington, DC in 2008 over 20 hours at 70 mph with only fuel stops. Still: it's a 50 year old car of solid German steel and has some rust pitting here and there - especially in the front from stone chips. The headlight buckets need to be sanded and repainted white.
The paint is 20 years old. Yes, it could benefit from a trip to your favorite paint shop. We love this VW due to its reliability and not because it's a trailer queen. Sound system has six speakers with a CD player.
Selling because just retired and the wife says I can't keep all my toys once we move to smaller place. I've chosen to keep my 1967 Firebird!
Clear Texas title in my name. Ready to be signed over to you!
Of all my classic cars, this one is the one that has required zero maintenance. Just turn the key and have fun.
