1982 Volkswagen Rabbit Description
This is my friend's truck, it's a 1982 Rabbit Diesel pickup truck (Caddy) that started its life as a gas truck. Believed to be a turbo but I don't have adequate experience with these vehicles to determine that for myself.
As the pictures show, it's a nice truck with a lot of money thrown into it over the years. This vehicle received the fuel lines to accept biodiesel fuel, and two 55 gallon barrels for storing fuel, along with the hand crank pump will convey with the truck if desired by the auction winner, as well as a 5 gallon plastic fuel can that is full of diesel which seems to be fine. Redone interior with a faint tinge of mold from sitting in a barn. Very little rust, all of it surface. The floorboard steel was replaced with new steel in 2010 when the interior was redone by L&S Auto Trim and Glass of Gainesville, FL. All receipts for work done in the past 10 years convey with the vehicle and it's a substantial amount of work. Among the improvements added to this truck is a replacement 20 gallon fuel tank, which means that this truck might have an 800 mile range at 40mpg.
A modern Pioneer MP3 WMA stereo head unit was also installed. Lastly, several original parts convey as well.
Clear Florida title in my friend's name. Car may be viewed in Gainesville, FL and must be picked up within 3 days of auction end. My friend has basically thrown the towel in on this vehicle, which he purchased in 2008 so this is a real opportunity for the right person. We're not looking to max out return on this caddy, we're looking to put it in good hands soon.
I just checked the vehicle to see if it would start and can report that the starter bumped when connected to a power pack. I believe the starter has seized due to sitting. We decided not to attempt to engage the engine but we do see that the glow plug light does go on, and then goes off when the sensor determines the glow plugs have reached operating temperature so the electrical issue is probably that it needs a new starter.
Starting this auction at $99 with no reserve. Someone's going to be a happy biodieseler in 10 days.
As is, where is. No warranties, of course! Vehicle must be picked up within 3 days of auction end.
