1968 Volkswagon VW Type 3 Squareback Import Variant Wagon Lots of Updates
1968 Volkswagen Type III Wagon Description
Going to try this out to see if there is any interest. I have owned this Squareback for 8 years and through that time I have finished a lot of the things the previous owner never got around to. We were told this is an import car, it was not originally sold in the US based on the VIN # and the shorter front seats
When I purchased the car I was told the engine had been rebuilt recently but I don't have any documentation of when or how long ago. The previous owner also did the following. Converted to 4 wheel disc brakes, converted from 6v to 12v with an alternator, recovered the seats with a mohair fabric, installed a 3rd brake light bar, slammed (lowered) it and installed a performance exhaust, Bright updated headlights.
I took the first few years to clean up some of the things that were previously done. I cleaned up all of the wiring and installed a modern stereo with 2 front speakers, replaced all of the shocks and bushings in the suspension. I had to slightly raise it to keep it from chewing up the tires. The tires are maybe 4 years old and were new when I put them on. Replaced the steering box, replaced all of the rubber seals around the doors, repainted the car 2 years ago, replaced the carb's with EMPI performance carbs, rebuilt the alternator, replaced all of the interior side panels and re-carpeted 3 years ago, replaced the clutch and pressure plate 3 years ago. I'm sure I am forgetting some things as well.
What needs to be done? Well, the horn doesn't work, the seats are difficult to move back and forth, it is only a 4 speed transmission and it would make all the difference if you made it a 5 speed with taller gears. So at this point it isn't really a great freeway car.
For the time I have owned it, I changed the oil regularly, had the valve's adjusted and kept it well maintained. This is a fair weather only, weekend car. I don't take it in the rain and NEVER in the snow. There are not any signs of rust on the car, floor pans are solid as is the undercarriage. I would estimate I have put less than 500 miles per year on this car since I have owned it. I am absolutely NOT desperate to sell it so please serious buyers only. I will only accept wire transfer or cash on pickup for payment, no credit cards, no PayPal, no cashiers checks.
