VAN IS IN PORTLAND OREGON
You cant find these everyday anymore
This van is very original inside
Engine starts, runs and idles well with no smoke or out of ordinary noises
It does not leak or use oil
The paint was touched up in some areas but is the original paint
There are no signs of repaired dents or putty repair. In fact the van has no rust holes or cancer.
There is one small dent above the headlight and a minor scrape at the rear wheel well.
This Vanagon started out as a Riviera camper in 1980. Rivieras are the same as a Westfalia with minor differences but made by Riviera, a company formed to provide for overwelming demand for Westys at the time.
The camper bumbled along happily with its same original owner for many years until it was sold a few years ago. It was being transported to new owner in a different state on top of a car hauler and the entire Riviera roof blew off and was crushed.
I bought the van topless and covered with a tarp. I found a Riemo camper roof and installed it. It was designed by a german companyfor the base vanagon as a conversion model and fits and functions well. (Reimo info available on google.) The canvas is good (not perfect) and the screens, windows and zippers function well. It stays dry, no leaks
The van starts, runs and drives well. The heat boxes and exhaust were replaced a few years ago and have been used minimally so will last a long time. I did a valve adjustment recently.
I have only driven it locally so I dont know how it would be on a long trip. I am not offering any type of warranty or guarentee. Its not been driven daily for a while but I do start it up and take it for a drive weekly.
If you have owned an old VW before you know the drill... periodic maintenance and periodic annoying problems. If your reading this and considering buying, you likely Love them anyway as I and many otherVdub type people do.
The interior panel for the rear hatch and the sliding door are broken. Easily made with luan plywood.
The out side sliding door handle is missing but door can be opened from the inside and it slides well
These handles as well as any other parts for the van can be easily obtained
There are some signs of wear and age (its a 1980) but overall a very functional and complete camper
So it will need minor attention here and there and is not perfect but still has many happy miles to go. I have been around VW s for many years and have owned several. I know enough to say that the engine, trans and clutch are very sound and the van goes straight down the road and drives like it should.
Odometer says 90,525 miles --the front seats, dash, head liner etc all very good and van steers well and drives straight which to me all reflect low mileage but I cannot say for sure what mileage is.
Underneath the body is very original and solid as well
