1981 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia - 55K ORIGINAL MILES - 4 SPEED - NO RESERVE!!!
1981 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Description
Due to far too many cars, I have decided to thin the herd and include selling my 1981 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia. I recently aquired it from a gentleman who had it stored in a barn for 9 years!!! So it is literally a "barn find." I just put $3500 into it (have receipt), which included: all new brakes, exhaust, tune-up, etc. And most importantly fixing the front cowl under the windshield, which apparently had been cut out and removed for some reason. I have been driving it around, and it runs and drives excellent. The engine starts right up, sounds great, plenty of power. The clutch feels great and the transmission shifts beautifully (was freshly replaced right before being put away-have receipt). But after sitting, I noticed the speedometer is no longer working after recently getting back. I do however have the title proving that the mileage back in 2007 was 54,535. And it was only 55,417 miles when it was put away in 2009. Please see the picture of the title. I have all of the paperwork proving the timeline/mileage/etc. Although I have been driving it around, it takes one pump of the brake pedal and the pedal comes all the way up. Sounds like it could use another brake bleeding. It still stops fine either way. Also, it has begun to smoke out of the driver's side due to the valve cover gasket leaking. Once again, no doubt from sitting, but an easy fix. As I mentioned, this has not stopped me from driving it, or it being reliable. The body as you can see, is in incredible condition, especially for it being a New England car. It obviously will need paint, but it would be a very easy job, given how solid it is. The rear hatch area in the corner by the window has been POR'd to prevent any future rusting (very common in that area on these.) It will need one rear bumper corn piece. Once again, very common. The rest of the outside of the van is complete. The top canvas will need to be replaced, and is missing. The good news is, the top is from a 1985 Vanagon and has the very desirable sunroof. There is no rot at all. And body is straight with no dents. The dog legs which are always rotted, are solid as a rock! The tires have full tread, but have some dry rot in between the treads. All of the lights and electronics work. I checked the sink pump and it works. But I have not checked any of the other camping equipment such as the stove or fridge. The good news is it looks like they have never been used. The interior has both tables and is mostly complete and in good condition.Like in all Vanagons, the contact paper that is stuck on through the interior has been mostly removed, such as on the headliner in the front. The radio needs to be hooked up, and I have a new outside antenna for it still in the package. The carpet is missing in the front. The front seats do not match the rear fold out, but they are in great shape. The rear fold out has some fraying. The visors also need to be put back on, but I have them. As you can see from the pictures, there are many many spare parts from extra sets of curtains, to molding, handles and so on. The previous owner had another Vanagon that he had stripped for parts and included. So a running, driving, registered, very low mileage, solid Westfalia that will be very easy to finish for a no reserve asking price of $7000! Compared to many others out there, this a great deal!!! I have a folder with receipts totaling thousands and thousands of dollars from the previous owners going all the way back. The money put into this is quite remarkable. All records with owners manuals are all there. Bid with confidence, check my feedback. Good luck!
