1961 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible HoodRide Pan Dragger on AIR
1961 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic Description
I hate to do this, but the car simply gets too much attention.I like to keep it somewhat low key & this car is anything but.
I know how much earning potential it has, I'm just not a "convertible person"
It needs a clutch (will drive fine, unless you dump the clutch...it'll chatter)Needs axle boots, but those are included.
It needs interior & top material but that's all "off the shelf" stuff at J Bugs.
(and let's be honest, if I pick the color, it's going to be replaced anyway...I'll just do it all green & white)
It's on NON-OP. No back fees.
I bought this car as a basket case. So much work has been done, it's hard to know where to start....or end.
The photos are from a while ago, so a bit more work has been done since then. It's got the correct shape early low-back seats. It also has the correct rear seat (almost impossible to find)
Tires are new, less than 200 miles..009 Distributor with electronic ignition for reliability.I purchased a set of fluted clear Hella lenses & AAC grilles. ( the cool stamped stainless ones, not the wire mesh ones )
It has all the windows, but will need some minor fab work to get the door glass functional. The rear quarter glass is in it now & all 4 regulators are installed. (Also nearly impossible to find)
It's got a 5" narrowed beam with disk brakes + adapters, so the wheels sit in the fenders perfectly.Drop spindles, but they haven't been drilled for bump stop bushings yet.
Drop plates out back.Got a set of 1" spacers to push the rear wheels out to the fender's edge & give it a little more drop.
Air ride all around. (Shocks on CO2)It's got all the handles, catches & latches for the top.
YES, I know the front gravel guards are on upside down, they are used aluminum pieces & that's the only way they would stay on.(I have a set of new stainless ones to replace them)
Too much sheet metal work has been done to list it all. It will need a little bit more, but most is already done.
The reinforcement rails are good enough for a driver, but I had planned to replace them. The heater channels were replaced by the previous owner & it was quite sloppy, so I fixed that.
The pan is pretty solid & perfectly straight. (Registered as a 66)12v. conversion. It's got 57 & down front turn signals just because they look cooler. (and the fenders were already mutilated, figured I'd save 'em)ALL ORIGINAL GERMAN SHEET METAL, no repop crap. The running boards are repops though, and I have a set of the thicker trim for them.
I've got a whole mess of little bolt on parts & a stack of receipts probably 2" thick.Easily over $13k invested with parts & labor.
No fantasy bidders, a non-refundable deposit of $500 is due within 24 hrs.Full payment due within 7 days, NO EXCEPTIONS !(I once had a guy leave me hangin' for 4 months while he went on vacation, that sort of thing is unacceptable.)
Deposit can be paid via paypal, but remainder must be paid in CASH !Shipping cost is the responsibility of the buyer, but I will help however I can. (Loading, logistics, etc.)
International bidders, please contact me before bidding. If you are close & want to come look at it, no problem...if you are far, send an inspector.I've got stacks of pics & can take new ones, so feel free to ask.I don't HAVE to sell this car, but I feel someone who really wants it should have it.
