1957 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic Description

This is a 1957 oval and a sure enough garage find. I learned to drive in this Beetle, back around 1971. Not long thereafter it was parked in a garage and left there. I bought it from the owners several years ago with the intent of a total restoration. I had the work done you will see listed on the attached statements. Basically, the fuel and brake systems were totally replaced, including a new gas tank. About $4300 worth. The mechanics just dropped a new battery and plugs in it and it started perfectly. I have mostly sanded it. I do have the original seats, but the headliner and carpet were done for. It had no bumpers, so I have purchased brand new stainless bumpers. Bought a new walnut Porsche steering wheel for about $1200. It still has the original Pirelli tires I learned to drive on, but I sure wouldn't trust them. As you can see, I bought 4 new wheels and new radials. It is a six volt and the headlights are like candles, so I purchased a beautiful brand new set of 6 v. driving lights. I also contacted an aftermarket seller and ordered every single seal and piece of trim they said was necessary for a total restoration. I did keep all of the original trim. Incidentally, these little guys do not have a fuel gauge. There is a switch that opens a one gallon emergency tank for when you run out of gas. It would probably hurt the historic value, but I believe I'd find a way to put in a gauge. I have done most of the sanding and purchased new pop out windows for the rear. It has very little rust. It will be necessary to cut new holes for the bumper brackets (Which are also brand new.) Most of the items I purchased have never been opened and are in their original wrappers. The rust you see in the photos is just superficial condensate from my HVAC. I'm sure it needs a new battery, but it ran perfectly when I parked it in my garage three years ago. I hate to sell it for very sentimental reasons, but I have another vehicle that needs major repairs and I have to prioritize my expenditures. Incidentally, the odometer reads 27549. I have no clue how many times it has been around, but in view of the many years of storage, I'd guess there is very little wear on this engine. If you are seriously interested I would be happy to put you in touch with my mechanic. Naturally, with a car of this age, I encourage a personal inspection. Local pickup in Knoxville, Tennessee only. Sold as is with no warranty of any sort. The implied warranty of merchantability is expressly disclaimed. (Can't help it. The lawyer side of me coming out.) Obviously, I have a lot of money invested and I cannot let this go cheap. And, incidentally, this is a final sale. If you want to inspect, please do so before you bid. I will not re-negotiate after the sale.
This vehicle is for sale locally, so I reserve the right to withdraw it from the auction.
