1985 Volkswagen Scirocco Base Description

Sporty, stylish, and very rare, this Gen 2 Scirocco is one of the nicest to be found in the eastern US. And it is a real kick to drive on twisty roads! This is the base model with a strong 1.8L 8V engine and 5-speed manual transmission. Factory options include sunroof and AC. Recent refurbishment included rebuilt CIS fuel injection, plugs & wires, tune up, full brake system (rotors, calipers, lines, cylinders), rebuilt shift linkage, stainless steel exhaust header (catalytic converter deleted), adjustable coil-over suspension, rubber window swipes, and a Pioneer stereo w/ hands-free Bluetooth and USB. (A VW Heidelberg AM/FM/cassette radio is included with sale.) The cloth interior is in beautiful condition, and the body is solid with no serious rust.

The car was repainted in the original color by a previous owner and it looks great. During my ownership, a small rust hole (about the size of a nickel) was professionally repaired with welded metal; another hole in spare tire well is patched with metal. The next caretaker will have a few more items to tend -- most notably, it needs a headliner and AC repair.

Minor problems: (1) Two small dents – 1 on the front left wheel well and 1 under the front bumper on the chin spoiler. (2) Cargo cover is missing. (3) Rear seat belt (female) receivers are missing. [Just discovered when my wife climbed in back!] (4) Driver's seat recliner knob and power mirror switch are not functioning. (5) The dash clock works but the hour-set button does not. All other gauges, lights, and controls work as expected.

The CarFax report is clean with no reported accidents. When I purchased the car, the odometer indicated 145,620 miles (substantiated by CarFax). Soon thereafter, the odometer and gas gauge failed, and I subsequently had a used gauge cluster installed in July 2018. The replacement odometer indicated 162,695 miles (~17k higher than the original). I estimate actual mileage is less than 150k, though true mileage is unknown.
