1970 KARMANN GHIA GARAGED 1996 MOTOR REBUILT RUST DENTS ORIGINAL to Retore NR
1970 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Description
Next for sale is a near original 1970 VW Karmann Ghia Couple
A true garage find without reserve! Title in Hand! NR!
FROM THE SELLER!The motor threw a rod in 1988 at the end of its trip here from Galveston, and the rod broke the case. I built the motor in 1989 with a new case (I think), new heads and cylinders. The new rods and pistons were given to Automotive & Machine to be balanced only to discover they came from the factory already balanced. Weird. Almost everything else came from the blown motor. I do not remember for sure if the crankshaft and cam were polished or replaced with new. Don’t remember about the cam followers either.
I drove it for about a year before deciding to start body work on it, badly. My son was born in September 1991, and I no longer had the time to work on it. At some point I needed the spray booth for painting a guitar bodies and some airplane parts, and it was moved outside in time for the ’95 hailstorm. It was moved back into the garage where I took out the motor to replace the firewall which was destroyed in an engine fire two owners back. Never got around to that. And there it sat until we put it on your trailer. Probably sat there since 1996.
The car looks to be original in and out, with a need of restoration.
There is rust pictured at the battery perch and behind the driver rear wheel well under the battery. Patch panels are not expensive and readily available.
There is rust pictured front of the right rocker and above the headlights. The dents in the trunk and right fender happened as a new roof was going on the garage. A bundle of shingle was dropped on it. Pictured! There is a re-pop right fender, used hood and trunk. Pictured! The interior looks almost complete including a crispy dash pad but missing the Driver's door panel. But The OIL looks good!
There is a key in the ignition and the tires will hold air for the most part.Trunk will not open but spare is there. Looks dry inside trunk!
The floors look solid from underneath, but I have not pulled back the carpet. All items are sold as is as always. There is no warranty! If more parts are found before you pick up, they will be included with you purchase!
This car is located in North Texas and you have a month to pick up.
