1966 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic Description

There is an awesome originality to this 1966 Volkswagen Beetle that you just don't get too see these days. So dig into the Bug's story and the history that it wears with pride.
This Beetle is exceptionally well documented, so we know this Bahama Blue VW was purchased new in late 1965 out in California. The original owner was a military man and WWII fighter pilot. He continued his government work after the military with NASA. This one even still carries part of the that history with the remainder of a very specific NASA bumper sticker on the front. He returned home to Tennessee and took the Volkswagen with him. This VW seemed to have been quite well respected by the condition on the majority original paint. In fact, he kept the car for 45+ years until his death. Since then the car has only been with a Volkswagen specialist shop and one other owner, and all within the Nashville area. It really retains a great original style from the double bumpers, to the full trim package. There are a few upgrades this received during its lifetime, like the rain guards and roof rack, but it all goes toward the theme of a well-respected classic that was made for enjoying.
The interior continues this highly original presentation. The pop-out rear vent windows, cream-colored headliner, and ivory-accented handles and knobs are all part of that factory VW charm. In fact, you know the seats are truly vintage, because the material doesn't get to last over half a century intact. This has all the right pieces, including the thin/grippy steering wheel with Wolfsburg crest in the center, VDO speedometer with separate fuel gauge, and even the optional AM radio is still cranking out the tunes! So for the right person, this is VW heaven.
In the rear is the original 1300cc powerplant. It has a terrific look of authenticity, right down to the air cleaner. But this one also has a nice secret. The Solex carb is a newer unit, and so that keeps this well-maintained motor running strong. You get full control over this flat-four with the four-speed manual transmission, and for some of us, nothing beats the air-cooled VW's distinct hum.
The sale comes with a detailed booklet that comprehensively documents this car's maintenance and helps tell its unique story. This is an awesome survivor that's ready for its next chapter. Call today!!!
