1981 Volkswagen Rabbit 1.9L Diesel Pickup LX, 5 speed, no AC, 92K miles
1981 Volkswagen Rabbit LX Description
Third owner, for about 12 years (~10K mi). Weekly commuter then semi-retired to weekend warrior errands.It's a rolling conversation piece; wherever I go with it I'm regularly asked about it.
The original interior is essentially intact (have lower dash but off the car) complete with original AM-FM radio, no rips in the seats (small one in the dash).
Replaced / work done:swapped in a 1.9L na "1Y" diesel (same hp as std 1600 TD); mileage approx same as vehicle;radiator;water pump;struts, shocks;rusted metal replacement, front wheel wells;front rotors, brake lines, brakes, rear wheel cylinders;converted front clip to "round-eye" (core support, fenders);have both "4-eye" (fog lights not wired) and "2-eye" grills;lower suspension stiffener;re-packed CV joints;VW "Castellet" alloy rims with Michelins;4 unused studded snow tires on orig steel rims;
Recent:cleaned and lubed starter bendixalternatorbattery
Rust:Front corners of floor at the jack donuts and windshield frame both need new metal. Truck was originally rustproofed, body in decent shape. I stopped driving it recently until I could fix the floors this spring, but plans have changed and am swamped with other commitments.
The truck starts right up and can be driven onto your trailer. Vehicle comes with all the parts mentioned including larger header / downpipe stub, hub caps, Bentley manual and more. If you have some rust repair chops, this is quite a find.
As you might suspect this vehicle is being sold as is, where is. Descriptions are not to be construed as a warranty of any kind. It is the responsibility of the buyer to have satisfied himself or herself as to the condition and value and to bid based upon that judgment alone.
Thanks for checking it out.
