1984 Volkswagen Rabbit GTI SPORT Description

I just recently picked this up and I can only officially describe this as a PROJECT CAR as it is not in perfect condition despite how it looks in the pictures it will need work, basically it needs restoration. Still turns heads as the paint is in decent shape, straight body.Actual mileage unknown since the instrument cluster has been upgraded to a newer style, which is why there is a mileage discrepancy, looks like it was 84k before swapping to the new cluster but who cares when it's this nice and a must have classic in my view. Clean title NO ACCIDENTS and It does run and drive great, not a bad starting point for a project.
Just a few things here and there to be done to make it complete, I'd say it's at about 70% completed.
- Needs work to rust spots on the hatch and various areas around the body.- It has minor body damage to passenger side door.- Interior needs work to the door panels, rusted floor pans, seats, needs driver side window regulator- Trunk pan covered with wood, spare tire well needs to be replaced.- Dashboard is cracked, some trim missing, headliner missing etc.- Needs a front wheel alignment- Need a cooling fan relay, relay bypassed for now to activate cooling fan manually- Car has heat no A/C (A/C option not installed from the factory)
Other details
- Runs and drives good- Lowered on FX adjustable coilover suspension (Made in Germany)- 15" Enkei EK92 wheels wrapped in Kumho rubber, front tires gonna need replacement- 98 Jetta engine runs good, transmission shifts fine into all the gears, clutch is strong.- Battery relocated to the trunk- Clean and clear title
It's going to need tires soon in the front and a front wheel alignment. ABA 2.0L 115 hp engine swapped in from a 98 VW Jetta, fuel system converted to EFI, MAF setup. Key turns ignition only, needs a separate door and trunk key made. Running and driving PROJECT car, not perfect but runs and drives and looks decent for the age. It's gonna take some work and investing to get this beauty in perfect restored condition. Any money invested in these is money well spent as these are growing in value and rarity. This is a 36 year old project car definitely worth the investment.
