1974 Volkswagen Thing Safari Description
About this vehicleThis 1974 Volkswagen Thing is an original with updates to the exterior. The owner has had it for 1 year. The vehicle runs great and is not regularly driven.Seller's NotesFront push bar, hood grab bar, hood hold downs, undercoatingExterior1974 Volkswagen Thing is a N.W. Pennsylvania "barn find".Car was originally purchased by the second owner from the original in Florida. The second owner bought the car as a gift for his High School aged son to drive while in school. Upon graduation; the son joined the Marine Corps. Shortly after the "second owner" put the car in storage in his pole barn in N.W. Pennsylvania. Decades passed, and the vehicle sat undriven, and the vehicle was all, but forgotten, until 2019 when the "second owner" pulled the vehicle from storage. The vehicle was painted, and undercoated. The heater was removed. The gas tank was replaced. The shock absorbers were replaced along with the battery, generator, and voltage regulator. The vehicle was then driven minimally on the owners property, and to the beach. The vehicle does have a current Pennsylvania inspection sticker. I purchased the car from the owner, and shipped it in an enclosed trailer to Illinois. I have gone over the vehicle, made minor repairs including the turn signals, and other general TLC, and lubrication where required. I have never registered the vehicle, and may have put 2 miles test driving around my neighborhood. It starts right up. I would like to keep the vehicle, and do a full pro restoration, but unfortunately due to my current employment situation; I have no choice but to put this unique, rare, and very much sought-after vehicle up for sale.It is a 1974 with less than 18000 miles. The car comes with all original windows, and floor lattice. The turn signal and brake light lenses, are all crystal clear, and without scratches, the VW emblem is clearly legible, and not rubbed off of the clutch pedal. The engine compartment, and wiring is all immaculate due to the car not being driven, and sitting in storage for 40 years, a Volkswagen enthusiast can tell how "tight" the engine sounds. The windshield wiper motor does not work, and upon inspection I noticed that one of the brushes was broken. The wiper motor itself is immaculate. The horn does not work. The car came with an AM radio that was not installed. The parking brake is disconnected, and therefore does not work.
I have described the vehicle as honestly and to the best of my ability. I will be happy to answer any questions, or provide potential buyer with additional photos, or video. The car is being sold "as is", "where is" with no warranty, or guarantee expressed.Interior17,777 original miles, all interior is original, the front driver's seat is in extremely poor condition, and has a cover, the front passenger seat is in good condition, but has a tear on the side. The upper rear seats are in excellent condition, and so are the springs. The seams are blown out on both sides of the bench seat.EngineThe engine has less than 18000 original miles, and sounds "tight". I also installed a replacement trunk seal.Deposits are nonrefundable.Created on the eBay Motors app
