This 1973 Volkswagen Thing came out of Texas in 1993 after the original owner's estate sold it to a car collector friend in Connecticut…It was stored indoors in an air conditioned warehouse for over 20 years until a Florida collector did a professional body off restoration (2019/2020) on this rust free, original Thing. No expense was spared on mechanics including flushing and coating the original gas tank, new fuel sender unit, and fuel lines. The original engine ID # AV 18 04 3 was removed, restored as needed and with all maintenance parts replaced. Transmission is original ID # AM OO5935…New carburetor, battery, distributor, wires, relays, switches. 5 New tires. Everything mechanical was replaced or rebuilt as needed. New seat upholstery including padding, trim, and carpets. All rubber weatherstripping and new am/fm radio. New glove box door. Mirrors, top hardware, turn signals convertible top hardware….. Even the door locks and hinges were rebuilt, the original vin tag was restored to new! The original wheels and hub caps have been restored . I've owned and restored many Volkswagen Things. Never seen or driven a THING as good as this. It truly looks, runs, handles, drives like it did when new! Body panels, doors, trunk door all fit perfect with new rubber weather stripping throughout. All locks have correct keys. First time offered for this fabulous body off restored 1973 Volkswagen Thing In remarkable original rust free condition restored to its magnificent original condition.
