1971 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Description

Have you ever wanted an automobile that has a sunshine personality, with an exterior that can change with the season, the event, or place, and that inspires smiles everywhere you go? If so, this used 1971 Volkswagen Type II microbus is it!
This is your chance to own a fun and unique museum piece. The 1971 VW Type II microbus nicknamed "Honey Bear" features custom body / paint work completed by students and faculty in the Central Michigan University Museum Studies Program. The exterior Kansas Beige (tan) paint was covered with black chalkboard paint, allowing the vehicle to shine both as an indoor exhibit in the CMU Museum, and occasionally as an outside rolling platform for educational programming at CMU and in the community of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Now with the feature 1969-themed exhibit ending, "Honey Bear" needs a new home.
"Honey Bear" is very much a crowd pleaser. The ease of cleaning off chalk art for each successive school or family group touring the museum made its novelty and ease of care much admired. The largest attended event in museum history was the 2019 Scooby Doo 50th Birthday Party, which was centered around "Honey Bear" lightly disguised as the "Mystery Machine." Use in multiple events, including the 2019 CMU Homecoming Parade and associated activities, was positively received by people from toddlers to seniors. The vehicle has a magnetic personality. Who says a homely Type II can't turn heads?

The engine was professionally rebuilt (Fall 2018) by a former VW dealership mechanic who has repaired these vehicles for decades. The engine has less than 500 miles on it since rebuild and the battery is new. The vehicle is operable, but needs additional work to be fully functional outside a local community. A prior owner installed a camper vent in the roof toward the back and that has not been removed. The body is in good shape, but the interior needs tender loving care. The upholstery and the overhead in back need attention. There is no functional radio. The middle bench seat in the back is missing. All seats need renewed upholstery.

If purchaser wishes to continue to use the vehicle as an interactive artistic or educational tool, the seller will tutor based upon lessons learned. There is potential for use as a stand alone interactive rental for birthdays, anniversaries, and other commemorative events. Its most loyal audiences are those of the "hippie generation" and those free spirits who wish they were alive in the 1960s/70s, as well as young women and men from grade school through college age who are particularly drawn to its simplicity, flexibility of use, artistic pliability, and iconic association with the 1960s and 1970s. If I had a dollar for every person who told me that they wished that they owned one like it, I wouldn't have to work for a living.
The vehicle is also suitable for restoration to the condition of manufacture since minor repairs to the body and modifications to the paint are the basic alterations to the stock package as purchased.

Purchaser may pick up the vehicle in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, or arrange for its pick up at his/her expense.

Honey Bear is a great holiday gift for your Honey!

The vehicle has no warranty and is being sold on an "as is" basis.
