1969 VW Beetle Volkswagen Bug 1641 No Reserve Gene Berg 4sp Original Paperwork
1969 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic Description
This auction is for my amazing 1969 VW Beetle. I have owned it for the past 5 years and have enjoyed it immensely. This 1969 VW Beetle is named Louie.
I actually have all the original paperwork for Louie from 1969 from the original owners including the original title, window sticker, owner's manual, customer ID card, and maintenance records.
Louie was originally imported through the Port of Jacksonville, FL then transferred to Frank Myers Motors of Anderson, SC and then sold in November 1968 for $1,939.45
Louie has lived his entire life in South Carolina and Georgia. Please see the pictures for the original title and window sticker. That's right, I actually have the original title from 1969 in hand. Unfortunately, the seller did write the former owners name on that title, but Georgia is a non-title state and this 1969 VW Beetle is registered in my name, so with a GA Bill of Sale and my previous registration you can register/title this VW in your state as needed, but please check with your local state DMV to verify. That being said, the original 1969 Title comes with the car and it would be a shame for someone to submit it to their DMV to have it lost forever.
Now on to all the good stuff, in 2009 this car was completely restored other than the paint, and it has the rare special order high back red leatherette interior in good condition and a very cool period correct under dash weaved shelf. The exterior is patinaed for a very cool look that also includes some custom hand-made pin striping details and an original luggage rack. Of course there are some small dents and bruises, but overall, the car presents very well and has only some small cosmetic flaws.
During this restoration Louie received an all new suspension with high performance sway bars, lowered spindles, KYB gas shocks, new running boards, and new alloy performance wheels, and he handles like he is on rails.
An extremely rare Gene Berg short shifter was added for performance as well. Along with the original pedal assembly being custom widened. Also a performance gauge set was added including RPM, Oil Temp, Oil Pressure, and Voltage gauges were all added and are perfectly functional along with the original gauges.
A rebuilt Dual Port 1641 Engine with a deep oil sump, new sheetmetal tins and brackets, Pertronixs Flame Thrower Ignitor III electronic distributor with adjustable rev limiter, Flame Thrower Ignition Coil, Degreed crankshaft pully, newly rebuilt carburetor and I am sure many more items that can be found in the records or on the car. The engine runs well, doesn't leak more than a drop over months and no smoke.
The engine runs well, the transmission shifts great, and just about everything on the this 1969 VW works, including the windshield wipers, the radio, lights, brakes, heater, gauges, etc. Now don't get me wrong, this 50 year old vehicle is not perfect, but it does not have any rust in the pans and it is in great running shape.
The chassis is rust free, free please see the photos, yes there may be some small surface rust areas on exterior but this a southern rust free car. I will be happy to send photos of anything you need.
So what does this car need, well mostly just a new owner as I have many other projects that need my attention, but here is a small list of things Louie could use.
The carburetor was just rebuilt and the new performance distributor was added. They could probably use a dyno session to tune them properly to get the best performance out of the engine, a Valve adjustment was also just completed within the last 1000 miles as well with new Valve Cover gaskets added.
The clutch holds great but it is a little rough in engagement at low rpm, so maybe an adjustment would help.
The windshield has a crack on the passenger side, and some of the door window weather-stripping could be replaced.Lastly, the paint looks really cool, patinaed as it is, but someone may decide they would rather have a new paint job, either way I am just being nit picky as to what Louie could use. He is in great shape and ready to play with his new owner, so go ahead and bid. Thanks
