Mechanic owned 1961 VW Bug
1961 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic Standard Description
Her name is Daphne, and she could be yours :)
Up for sale is a cherished little daily driver 1961 Volkswagen Beetle. Daphne's birth date was in July of 1960 for the 1961 model year. This car takes down all the pavement you can throw at it across New England with her period correct 40hp 1200cc motor. Starts right up, runs mint and has plenty of torque. Complete air-cooledfanatic mechanic owned car. It has been pretty competitive in local road rallies alongside much more glamorous cars but keeps up and gets looks with the rest of them! The car was used as a good weather daily driver and was religiously maintained. AMS-Oil Z-rod 20/50 and valve adjustments every 3,000 miles on the nose. Original "matching numbers" engine to the car can be included for buy it now. Runs but makes noise, currently undiagnosed. Electrical system still 6v, with a brand new battery. 6V Generator charging as it should, car fires right up every time, even in 20 degree weather. Pans and channels have been replaced at some point, still very solid. Headliner is gone but still ceiling bows are included. Door cards are original and in good shape. Front seats have been reupholstered, rear seat is still original upholstery. There is no fuel gauge, as this model year is an original fuel reserve tap car! So cool. Original tap has been rebuilt and operational. All lights operational. Horn and wipers are intermittentand will take some tinkering to sort. Components are there. Steering is tightish but entirely drivable, drivers side link is binding a bit, not yet addressed. I learned to just live with it and you may too. Brakes and parking brake work very well and car comes to a stop in a straight line. Car rides and handles very nicely and has been an absolute blast to own.
Currently restoring another 'sentimental' bug that I've had for several several years, and can't keep them all. If it were spring I'd be hard pressed to let Daphne go!
You'll be getting a great little bug, if you'renew to the classic bug scene, or very familiar with them all the same.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
As these things go, some key points to make and understand before bidding. Given the age of the car and what it is, and of course the venue in which it’s being listed, I am offering this sale AS-IS, no warranties outside of my word on the items mentioned above, and no refunds of any kind once the deal is done. This said PLEASE ask any and all questions, come and see/inspect the car if you’re able, and get all of your own permissions/financing/space cleared in your garage BEFORE you bid. BUY IT NOW can be agreed on at $6,500 or upon discussion, so please reach out if this is of interest. The car is also going to be listed elsewhere and for sale locally, first to pay is the new owner. Otherwise, bid what you can afford to and are committed to pay, and we’ll see from there! PayPal for deposit is OK, the rest will have to be wire, cash, or certified bank check (PP Fees too high for full payment unless you want to cover them). Nothing gets handed over till funds clear. Pick up here at my house in Worcester MA is expected within 5 business days of end of auction. Shipping is responsibility of the buyer, but I will of course do anything I can on my end to help get that sorted. I’ve both shipped a car home and away so I’m happy to lend my experience onto whomever might not have before to make it go smoothly. I have all the paperwork, clear/clean title, ready for new owner to register in their name etc, all will be sent certified mail once funds are cleared.
In closing, my reputation on here means A LOT to me, and my enthusiasm for these cars and the people that enjoy them is my favorite part of the hobby. If there is anything you’d like to know or share in regard to this great little piece of history, I’d love to chat. Please feel free to consider my feedback, and or speak with anyone that has purchased a car from me in the past if you have any concerns. Thanks again for the interest and good luck with the bidding :) Cheers, Brando
