1973 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Description
Nice VW Bus. Runs and drives good. Solid floors and undercarriage. Has two rows of passenger seats. Nice interior. Paint shines nicely. Engine has good power. Needs new muffler (has holes and backfires under load). Steering wheel has play. Transmission and gears work good; no popping out. Clutch engages without issues. Brakes operate fine. Tires are in good condition. Recent carburetor could use some fine tuning for optimal performance. No Smog Check required in California. Currently Registered.
Needs some electrical sorting. Accessory lights don’t come on. Horn and fuel gauge don’t work. Blinkers and lights work fine. Button under dash starts motor instead of ignition key. Needs outside driver side door handle replaced.
Body is solid and original; much better than many unrestored VW busses I have seen or owned. Has some dents on panels (side and front) in accordance with use of a 43 year old recreation vehicle. Floors are in excellent shape. So is undercarriage and body panels in terms of rust or corrosion.
Overall, this is a decent bus to drive and restore as needed to suit your needs and budget. These VW busses are not going down in value and soon the prices will be prohibitive to the average enthusiast. Now’s your opportunity to start living the dream!
