1989 Volvo 780 Description

For sale is a rare 1989 Volvo 780 Bertone Turbo Coupe. Approximately 8500 of these cars were built over a 5 year run, with about 5500 imported to the US. Fewer still were turbocharged, and they are not a common sight on the roads. Unless you (or your neighbor) own one, you won't see one every day!
At the time, this was the most powerful and most expensive road car in Volvo's lineup. It combined Volvo's reputation for safety and durability with tasteful and exclusive design by Bertone. The chassis and drivetrain were built in Sweden, while the bodies, interior, and assembly took place in Italy. I like to think of this car as a classic Swedish girl with designer Italian clothes. While the underpinnings are taken from the 760, the body and interior are unique to this car.
As befitting a top of the line model, the 780 came equipped with every option - ABS, power windows, power locks, power sunroof, power mirrors, heated power seats, fog lights, power antenna, remote trunk, air conditioning, and cruise control. 15" alloy wheels were standard. The only real choices were was color you wanted for the paint and upholstery, and whether you wanted the 140HP V6 or the 188 HP Turbo 4.
This car is not perfect - but it is solid. A good base for either restoration or customization. It was my daily driver for awhile and is a good runner. I recently replaced the turbo with a T4/T3 hybrid and upgraded to a later exhaust manifold. Windshield is cracked and there is a minor dent in the passenger door. Headliner has been removed. As is typical of these cars, the dash is cracked and the driver's door panel needs some work. Stereo does not work and the factory equalizer and speakers have been removed.
As mentioned, the mechanical parts are common to the 760, and you can still find wrecking yards and private parties to supply 780 specific interior and exterior parts. And, to help you out, I am including the following items:
-Spare sunroof assembly-Spare drivers door panel-Electric radiator fan and relay from later 700/900 turbo-Front lowering springs -Nivomat lower mounting pins for converting to standard rear shocks-A pair of 242GT rear springs and a pair of 240 Turbo Wagon rear springs-960 front sway bar-960 rear sway bar (some drilling required to install)
While this has been a rewarding car to own and fix up, I don't have the time or space to really do a full resto-mod. My hope is that this car goes to somebody who can not only bring this car to its original glory, they can make it better.
