Performance 1992 Volvo 740 Turbo Wagon
1992 Volvo 745 Turbo Description
Condition:
This is for a used 1992 Volvo 740 Station Wagon. It has had a lot of performance parts and accessories, so mechanically it is in reliable shape for a sporty daily driver. The engine and other mechanical parts have been well maintained and upgraded over the years. The interior trim has a few broken pieces here and there, but it is in above average shape for a car this age. While there is no rust on the car, the exterior paint and trim are in rough shape along with a few dents and scrapes. The in-car odometer reading is not accurate due to an instrument cluster swap to repair an inoperative speedometer sometime in 2006, and the actual mileage on the car is roughly 285,000 miles. The car has basically brand new tires on 16 inch alloy rims. The only known serious mechanical defect is a broken parking brake cable, and a new genuine Volvo cable and brake shoes are included with the car along with many other brand new parts. Since this is a used car it is sold as-is. The title is clear with no liens and it passed CA smog in December 2017 with no issues.
Long Description:
I am looking to sell my sleeper performance daily driver 1992 Volvo 745 wagon. It has been a fun, comfy, and reliable ride for me for years, and I have put a lot of time and effort into the car to keep it both fun and rolling. It has been maintained both by myself since 2005 and the occasional Volvo Indie mechanic. It will come with some tools, tuneup parts, and a large set of new genuine Volvo parts. The car has been extensively upgraded for superior handling, improved safety, better acceleration, and good reliability over the already great Volvo specs. Many of the upgrades are well known to the Volvo community, and the parts for this level of performance are getting harder and harder to obtain these days. The interior is in good shape for a car of this age, and the exterior of the car has a nice patina of age with some dings, scratches, and visible primer.
This was the last year for the Volvo 740 model series and this car is essentially a Volvo 940 which replaced the 740 series. The car's design was significantly reworked for this model year, and it has the Volvo side impact protection system, seat-belt pretensioners, driver's side airbag, ABS brakes, along with good steering and braking performance to help keep you out of an accident to begin with.
This is a fantastic car for both someone looking for a daily driver or for a car enthusiast looking for a cost effective project. It drives easily and it can probably haul more in the back than most SUV's due to its box shape.
The good:
Red 1992 Volvo 745T (~285 K on odometer), reliable rust free daily driver.
Factory power sun roof.
Black interior with luxurious leather seats.Power mirrors.
Mobil 1 oil used since 150K miles, no discernible oil consumption between changes.
Rebuilt 13C turbo by professional re-builder at ~220K miles.
Manual boost controller so you can control how much get up and go this car has.
DO88 silicone intake hoses
IPD upgraded turbo CBV diaphragm and spring to have less flutter and be more reliable.

IPD upgraded suspension bushings to give the car better handling
Front and rear 25mm anti-sway bars.
IPD sport lowering springs both for improved handling performance and great looks!

IPD braided stainless steel brake hoses, Akebono brake pads, OEM rotors.

A/C works, R134A convert with new compressor, variable orifice tube. Upgraded compressor and alternator bracket to newer style for fewer bushing changes.Later style manual climate control module.
Volvo head gasket and newly machined head installed at ~220K; Head machined at BMW performance shop from low mileage 240 unit
Upgraded to later style valve springs and retainers that are more durable than the factory ones.
IPD Turbo cam.
Buncha Spark wasted spark ignition (from Turbobricks). This replaces the traditional cap and rotor with a more modern electronic ignition system and I feel makes a nice little performance improvement as well as increase the reliability. The wiring is plug and play back to original ignition system and all original parts are included.
Performance ignition and fuel computer chips in Gold EZK and 954 boxes (original Volvo chips and spare EZK included with sale)
3 spot, A-pillar gauge pod with turbo gauge and oil pressure (LED style narrowband air/fuel ratio meter not connected). A new wideband air fuel ratio meter and new sensor are included with car. The catalytic converter has a convenient port for the sensor.

Volvo Turbo Eggcrate grille.
Upgraded center console armrest to later style Volvo, which has better cup holders and is more comfortable.
Sony radio head unit with Bluetooth connectivity and hands free communication ability.
Super-duper oversized u-joints on drive shaft with grease fittings. These will likely outlast the car.
Including new genuine motor mounts, trans mount, overdrive solenoid with o-rings, gaskets, crank and cam shaft seals, accessory bushings, new air oil and fuel filters, oil, and random other bits I have accumulated. Also including a new set of IPD suspension blue cone bushings.
Crank shaft counterhold tool and Volvo factory service manuals that I have are included.Car has factory LSD.
The less good:
Factory AW-71L transmission. The lockup function does not currently work, but otherwise shifts fine and the OD works. This basically makes the transmission functionally equivalent to the standard AW-71 transmission that came on most of these cars. The car drives normally.
The shift lever moves when accelerating or braking, but this does not influence operation.
Small oil leak at oil pan, or rear main seal, or at oil pressure sender. There are some visible drips on the garage floor, but nothing concerning.
Body fairly rough (no rust, but lots of good dings, scratches, roughed up bumpers, and failing paint)
Dent in tailgate and scratches, especially on right side of car, and some failing clear-coat from a long-ago paint repair.
Tailgate interior trim broken, along with other random bits in the car here and there.
Antenna mast broken, but replaced with an internal style antenna (plug and play back to OE if desired)
Parking brake cable snapped at lever (Including new genuine Volvo cable and new Volvo parking brake shoes with car)
Heated seats not working.
Current odometer reading incorrect due to cluster change, with the actual mileage closer to ~285 K miles
Some speaker grills and door trim broken or missing.
Passenger side rear door panel is broken and needs repair/replacing
Tachometer occasionally fluctuates (electronic issue in cluster)
Some seat surfaces worn, but in relatively decent shape, especially for the age of this car.
