In the Summer of 1966, Volvo introduced the 144 as the successor to the popular 120 line. The car debuted Volvo's boxy aesthetics for the first time, a design that would stick with Volvo for decades. At the time, the 144 was considered the safest car ever built. The body featured energy absorbing crumple zones and for wheel disc brakes. Trumping its safety, was the cars overall reliability and longevity.
Fresh off the boat, GR Auto Gallery is excited to offer this extremely original, ultra clean, 1971 Volvo 144 De Luxe euro sedan. The car appears to retain most if not all of its original Turquois factory paint over original brown interior. The recently came to the US form Germany, and from the documentation provided it has spent most of its life in Italy. This Volvo is powered by its 2.0 liter inline 4 cylinder engine fed by twin SU Carbs, 4 Speed manual transmission and rear wheel drive. Mechanically, this 144 is spot on. It runs excellent, pulls strong in every gear, tracks straight and stops quickly.
Cosmetically, this original Volvo is clean clean clean. The sheetmetal and connection points are excellent in all areas. Under the hood and in the trunk reveal excellent nooks and corners, the original interior is fantastic all around.
