1966 Volvo Amazon 122
1966 Volvo 122 S Description
Dynamite running and fun to drive. Most folks ask if its Columbo's car. Regret selling but medical condition makes finishing it tough!
Everything works except the heater blower motor. I can't flex like I used to to chase it down.
Here's the good: Compression is between 176 and 180 in all the cylinders. New brakes shoes, cylinders, and drums rear; and, front calipers, rotors, bearings, hoses, master cylinder, and new brake lines here and there. New clutch master and slave. New fuel pump, regulator and older Redline carb conversion. New windshield seal, door windows seals and channels; have door seals and rear window but was waiting to paint it before installing. Haven't been able to source the rear vent window seals. New Optima battery in the trunk and new lenses and rubber housing for the lights. New shocks and tires. I'm sure I'm forgetting something but I wanted it road worthy before body work.
The bad: you can see in the pics rust is bubbling through the lower passenger door and front grill area. Paint is cracking and spider webbing on roof and other places (cheap respray in its past.) Someone before me put metal in the trunk spare wheel well, but you can see its needs replaced ($200 for the panel) or patched. There is a quarter size hole in the driver pan. No other rust through that I've seen. Some chrome bits and bumpers are pitted, oxidized but they're all there. Needs upholstery, carpet, and head liner. The front end needs new bushings as the car likes to float above 65 - nothing scary but it floats. Aftermarket gas tank float works but not great. With a 10 gallon tank I know when it needs some so not a big deal. Last thing, shifting: double clutching works great, driving it like a new car will grind gears if shifting to quick.
With all that said, folks like looking at this cool old ride as there just aren't many of them around anymore. I'd drive it everyday if the back window seal was in, but Florida's rain would win. I waited a long time to find this Amazon and keep it garaged or under a cover. Think I'll go for a ride now before I change my mind - grand kids want ice cream!
