1973 Volvo 1800ES - Auto, Factory A/C, relatively minimal rust, complete
1973 Volvo 1800 ES Description
Listed is my 1973 Volvo 1800ES project car that I have yet to give any attention. Before it rots away in my possession, and to downsize my project list, I have decided to sell. This is one of Volvo's most limited production vehicles as it was only produced during the 1972 and 1972 model years. A little over 8,000 were produced during those years.
The body seems straight but there is some minimal (in my opinion) rust and signs it has been partially repainted sometime during it's 47 year existence. It would make a relatively easy restoration.
Plus it runs! Yup... that's right... it runs! It may take a few extra cranks for that to happen, but it will run, idle, and move under its own power. It is not roadworthy by any means, but the brakes function for the most part.
The odometer only reads 68k miles and the car seems to be complete, minus a radio and the left rear cargo floor panel. The steering wheel's horn assembly is with the car, but not on the wheel. The gentleman I bought it from put in a new fuel tank and pump shortly before selling. Did I mention it has factory Air Conditioning? I don't believe the A/C works, but the fan blows like a leaf blower on steroids (well, that may be an exaggeration).
Now for the bad: it's an automatic... but the leaking rear main seal gives you an excuse to swap in a manual if you so choose. There is some rust on the passenger side floor pans, which may be from rain water leaking in from the stick-on strips of foam weatherstripping on that door instead of the proper door seal. The paint on that rocker panel is bubbling also, so the cancer has started to spread. I didn't notice that there was a fabricated sheetmetal tray glued to the battery box until taking pictures for this listing. It was covering the rusted out battery box, sadly. The biggest surprise for me was the rust along the lower hatch opening. That may be the most complicated repair. And the only other notable rust is a small section at the base of the driver's side wheel arch. Of course, I cannot guarantee there aren't surprises, but I have tried to be as thorough as possible in the description and with the pictures provided. Additional photos can be provided upon request.
*The battery in the pictures is not included, but will provide a battery upon sale.*
I have a clean North Carolina title.
