RESTORED 1967 RAMBLER AMERICAN ROGUE CONVERTIBLE.
Purchased from the original owner several years ago, this Rambler Rogue was an ideal candidate for restoration. Complete and original in all respects—never modified, well documented car with original sales receipt purchased in Maine. Vehicle had been stored in climate-controlled garage for 25 years. Only 119,000 miles. Rust free everywhere except lower rear quarter panels. Six-cylinder-232 cubic inch, ‘Flash-o-matic’ auto transmission. Power top is the only power assist. Deluxe trim package including bumperettes. AM radio.
Exterior
The Rambler was disassembled, stripped to bare metal with either chemical and/or media blasting including inner fender wheels, engine compartment, firewall, doors, trunk and undercarriage. All factory panel deformation was corrected. New lower rear quarter panels replaced the only rust on the car. The new quarters were hand made by a metal fabrication artist and include the outer and inner pieces as factory original. See pictures for details. Refinished with base coat clear coat in factory correct Aqua Blue. Forty hours of hand sanding and polish after painting. Bumpers and other chrome were all replated or replaced. Stainless steel trim was polished.
Finish under the hood is just has good as the exterior, all components removed from firewall and inner fenders to facilitate proper refinishing.
New components on the exterior include all door seals, window fuzzies, trim, all hardware and emblems. Convertible top is new, now black in color, works perfectly. Original convertible top boot and new boot still in box.
Interior
Extraordinary original condition for all the interior. Dashpad is perfect. Seats and door panels are excellent. One small quarter inch imperfection on the side of the driver’s seat that has been repaired—too small to photograph. New carpet installed. Instrument cluster was refinished. Dash lights upgraded to LED bulbs. All interior lights functional and door switches replaced. Working original AM radio.
Trunk finished to factory new.
Mechanical
· There are a few things to mention. Some plastic seat trim needs to be painted and installed (all pieces are complete and repaired as required). These were previously refinished using a ‘chrome’ paint which was not very durable. A piece of rubber molding about 1.5 inches long at the front of the convertible top could use attention. Since my use of the vehicle is 95% with the top down, this is not an issue for me. The turn signal switch is intact but does not always return to the correct neutral position, but the signals cancel just fine. This is a very small paint chip in the driver’s door—noticeable only at certain angles. The temperature gauge works but does not get to the middle position. Apparently this is a typical fault with these cars.
Numerous spare parts included. Original owner’s manual, original bill of sale and service manual included.
This Rogue looks and drives great. An excellent example of an unmolested 60’s convertible. Plenty of power for the thruway, yet nimble to drive around town. Great summer cruiser.
