1961 Austin Healey Sprite Convertible Description

This 1961 Austin Healey Sprite Mark II Roadster is ready for spring which is right around the corner. Speaking of corner, cornering this Sprite is amazingly superb due to the nice tight feel of rack and pinion steering, and fully independent front suspension with coil springs and shock absorbers and a half-elliptic leaf spring live axle at the rear. While performance from the 948cc 4 cylinder engine fitted with twin SU Carbs mated to it's four speed BMC Transmission isn't earth shattering, with it's low sitting position and diminutive proprtions the Sprite feels fast, sounds fast, and handles like you'd experience in a lot of late model sports cars, making it so much fun to drive. 46hp, 0-60 in 20 seconds isn't going to win many, if any, out of the hole straigt line races, however, it will likely give alot of those quicker cars a run for their money on back roads with windy turns. Perfomance isn't everything, let's look at some of the finer details the Sprite has to offer. Fresh Oxford White paint, with new red Wilton wool carpet, and black bucket seats, make for a beautiful color combonation. Check out what else you'll get- Perspex side windows, new soft top, burl wood dash, disc brakes, smith gauges, original two spoke steering wheel, wire knockoff wheels with new rubber including a full size spare tire and wire wheel knockoffs plus a fitted cover. If you're thinking 46hp won't get out of it's own way, think again. There's a reason why Sprites won more races than any other sports car in it's class. Why is this, how did Sprites kick butt back in the late 50's thru the early 60's? I've pretty much given every hint possible, now is the time to find out the rest of the story. Buy the car and I'll guarantee you'll be as pleased and taken back as I am when Im behind the wheel, permanent grin and all!
