Greetings to All!! imotors is quite pleased to offer this rare and desirable Barn fresh 1953 LHD Bentley R Type!! I am handling the sale of this Bentley, and also a 1986 Silver Spur for a close lady friend whose husband passed away back in mid 2014. Jim was an English car guy, and loved Jaguars and Rolls Royce's. These folks were long time members of both clubs, and participated with the cars for many years. Jim was also a JCNA Concours Judge!! We were good friends for many years! I will do the best I can do describe them accurately, but my information is limited as to what I have personally learned and observed. I have no long term history or documents. If she finds anything, I will pass it along!
The photos of the car in the barn were taken in March of 2015 by myself. I never saw it again until a few weeks ago. The widow lady and her friends pulled it out of the barn, cleaned it up, and put it in the house garage. Someone installed a new battery? I don't exactly know when, but I would guess sometime during Spring of 2016. They also must have put in some fresh gasoline, as when I started it, the fuel was fine with no smell, or performance issues.
After I unloaded it off of the truck, and upon turning on the power, I heard the fuel pump come to life. However, when it didn't slow down, and I smelled gasoline, I immediately knew there was a hole somewhere in the fuel line. There in fact, was a hole in the rubber hose right after the fuel pump. I repaired this hose, and ran some sandpaper(2000) through the points, and hit the starter button. After a bit of light coaxing, the sleepy Bentley 6 cylinder came to life. It now runs well, but surely will need a complete servicing and a tune up before use.
After moving it around a bit, I did feel brave enough to take it on a short spin. Just long enough to be sure that it shifted through all 4 forward speeds, which it does flawlessly! Brakes do stop, but vibrate badly up front. I have moved it in and out of the garage a few times with no issue. It starts with ease, and will drive on and off your transport truck/trailer, but that is it!!! No you can't drive it home.
The 100 pictures below will basically tell the cosmetic story. This car is exactly how it was found in the barn. It got cleaned and was made to run. That's it!!! The body seems very solid, with just some scabs developing from barn storage. The interior was redone at sometime in vinyl. Notice that ALL of the large and small tools are still present, and are mounted where they were when new!!
Take a look at the 100 photographs below and see the actual condition of this 1953 Bentley R Type. I can be reached anytime to discuss details, or arrange a purchase.
