1957 BMW Isetta in need of full restoration
1957 BMW Isetta Description
In need of full restoration.
Main large items needed are seat and rear window, but it likely needs several smaller components to complete the restoration. Compression is at about 90psi.The engine cranks, starts and runs briefly on starting fluid (but it will need to be rebuilt as it has a soft noise that sounds a rod knock). The body needs a complete new floor and about 6-10" above the floor all around (improper repair was done prior) besides some other areas that need attention. The chain case had cracked or broken before as it has some weld beads on it. The carburetor was rebuilt about a year ago and it was used on a running Isetta for a few monts (it is slightly larger '24mm' vs 22mm stock)
I purchased it 3 years ago in the same condition as it is now and I've come to realized that I don't have the time to do the restoration. When purchased it came with new (or refurbished) wheels, new tires, new hubcaps, new front shocks, new front springs, new rear shocks, new rear bumper, new brake fluid reservoir, new fuel shut off valve, new master cylinder (shows some rust now) was installed and brake lines partially run, and new front windshield (still inside shipping box).
What you see on the pictures is what comes with it.
It comes with two used fuel tanks that will have to be treated to be usable, one extra carburetor body and an extra different style carburetor that was fitted on the engine when purchased.
It is a NON matching numbers car.
Mileage of 3200 shows on title but the odometer shows 32000
I only have a registration for it on my name as CT does not tittle 20+ years old cars, but I have the previous Maryland Title signed over to me as DMV lets you keep the old title since they don't provide a new one.
Included come a Service manual from John Jensen, a digital very detailed Service manual by Jenny Morgan and engine and cylinder head rebuilt videos from Cycle Works.
