1991 BMW 3-Series 325i Description

1991 Bmw 325i Description

Offered is a very nice low mileage 1991 Bmw e30 325i, 2 door, automatic.

The car is in superb condition, there is not rust whatsoever on the car (I was very animate about finding an e30 that didn’t have any rust issues). The car is very low mileage at only 103,897 mi.

The car received a full respray before I bought it, this was a proper quite expensive paint job ($3,900) with a proper base coat and clear, they really did an amazing job.

I have done several tasteful modifications to the car, my goal was for the car to look like a proper classic e30, I didn’t want it to look like a tuner car and I only stuck to mods that enhance the driving pleasure and appearance:

Here’s a list of all the modifications:

  • real leather seats (I bought the car with vinyl front seats and replaced them with really nice superb condition leather comfort seats, besides being leather they also have a much thicker padding than the vinyl ones and they are very comfortable, they did come out of a 4-door e30 though therefore they don’t have the lever to quickly gain access to the back, back seat has the original leather which shows a little bit of wear here and there, but still looks nice).
  • Atiwe leather steering wheel (made in Germany).
  • e46 automatic leather shifter knob (looks nicer and is much more comfortable than the stock T shifter knob).
  • aluminum cluster gauge rings.
  • e36 lit window switches (so much nicer than the hard-to-push factory e30 switches)
  • Kenwood radio and aftermarket speakers
  • Premium Bmw rear speakers
  • 4300k bright HID headlights (no blueish hue here, they look like very bright whiter halogen lights, very factory look. FYI, for HID colors, pure white is 5000k, 6000k has a hint of blue and 4300k has the brightest output and has a slight hint of yellow very similar to what a lot of newer cars come equipped with (I included a picture of the headlights aimed at the back of my Miata). They are using compact ballasts that are neatly hidden so you can’t see anything when you open the hood.
  • Euro headlight grills (no cutout at the top).
  • clear front and side markers with discreet bulbs (no more amber).
  • radio antenna delete (I didn’t want any chrome clashing with the blackout look, if you wish to get radio reception, you can just add one of those rubber fixed antenna and just hide it like under one of the front seats or back seat).
  • leather brake boot and handle (handle is from an e34 and boot is real leather with the M color stripes).
  • keyless entry with folding key fob (very convenient, you can use either the key from the key fob or the regular one to start the car). It comes with 2 key fobs (both with folding keys) and the original key.
  • Bilstein HD shocks.
  • Eibach lowering springs (what I like about this springs is that they are very conservative, they lower the car some, control body roll nicely yet retain a nice amount of comfort, I originally had H&R Sports springs and while they felt very sporty, they would get annoying when going on a long trip as you would feel all the expansion joints on the highway).
  • ST 22mm front sway bar (as I went with softer springs, I wanted to make sure body roll remained minimal so I swapped the stock 20mm front sway bar for a 22mm, steering feel very responsive).
  • e36 steering rack (when I bought the car, the rack was leaking, so rather than swapping it for another e30 rac, I opted for 3.25 turns lock to lock e36 steering rack (vs 4.0 turns with a stock e30 rack, makes the steering much more responsive but not as darty on the highway as with a 2.75 turns Z3 rack). Rack received all new tie-rods.
  • e36 M3 solid rubber lower control arm bushings (just installed last week).
  • blackout kidney grill (plastidip), also plastidipped the area around the rear licensed plate, the IS front bumper lip was originally painted body color, but being that close to the ground, it would get chipped easily and I also prefer the look of it in black (it is plastidipped, you can always peel it off if you want to return it to red).
  • stainless steel Garagistic oil pain guard (with the car lowered and the oil pan being the lowest point, I preferred to be safe).
  • 4.10 LSD from a low mileage e30 M3 (the car it came from only had 80,000 miles, clean diff with prefect lockup and no leaking seals).
  • Stoptech ceramic brake pads front and rear for low dust and better braking performance.
  • ESM 16x8 BBS LM look-alike wheels, they are very nice Bmw-like wheels that are no longer available, they are lightweight and fit the car nicely (proper offset with no wheel spacers). They have OEM Bmw roundel center caps.
  • clear protective film over the headlights and fog lights to prevent pitting

A lot of parts were replaced and a lot of maintenance was done to the car in recent years to bring it to its current condition.

Here's a list of the parts replaced in the recent past:

  • new radiator, thermostat and radiator hoses
  • new radiator fan and fan clutch
  • remanufactured A/C compressor
  • A/C system overalled (o-rings and dryer replaced, recharged with R12 substitute), A/C blows ice cold.
  • new rubber door, hood and trunk seals
  • new felt sunroof seal
  • new BMW emblems (trunk and hood)
  • new front windshield (it’s very appreciable to not have to see through a pitted windshield)
  • new rear windshield
  • new fog OEM lights (no pitting there)
  • used projector headlights with no pitting (really nice ones)
  • new engine and transmission mounts
  • new front control arms and bushings (e36 bushings installed last week)
  • new rear Lemforder subframe and trailing arm bushings (you can see a picture of the whole rear subframe being dropped and bushings replaced)
  • new rear inner brake lines
  • new sway bar link in the front and rear
  • new steering column rubber guibo
  • new timing belt and water pump
  • new accessory belts
  • new valve cover gasket
  • new distributor rotor and cap
  • new spark plugs and plug wires
  • crack-free dash
  • new shock/strut mounts
  • full synthetic oil and bosh oil filter
  • front and rear sway bar links
  • new brake disks
  • new air intake boot
  • new air filter
  • new oil filler cap
  • new crankshaft position sensor
  • new Bosh temperature sensor
  • rear cv axles were replaced in the past remanufactured units
  • all fluids replaced: transmission fluid, diff LSD fluid, power steering and coolant
  • fuel filter
  • oil pan gasket
  • driveshaft center support bearing and guibo
  • full wheel alignment done by performance shop
  • new side rear bumper trim
  • new front fender impact strips
  • new gas door spring
  • new OEM Bmw shifter console brush
  • new glove box handle
  • new inside door handles trim
  • transmission was previously rebuilt

Miscellaneous facts:

  • toolbox has all the tools, jack, wheel block and factory lug wrench are all there.
  • car was fully loaded from the factory with an electric sunroof and cruise control (works nicely).

What the car will need, I had bought the parts but haven’t had the time to swap them in:

  • odometer gears, odometer started working intermittently, I estimate the car to have no more than 3,000 miles over what the cluster currently displays.
  • diff mount, when I dropped the rear subframe to replace all the bushings, I didn’t look at the diff mount and only noticed afterwards that it was worn.

Minor flaws (as shown on the pictures):

  • headliner could stand to be re-stretched by the drive side c-pillar (didn’t stretch it properly when they replaced the rear windshield and remove the side glass).
  • there are 3 very small paints chips on the driver side rear fender (closer to the taillight => see photo).
  • there are some paint chip by the edge of the hood (see photo).
  • they didn’t apply the paint deep enough in the passenger side mirror and some primer can still be seen by the of the glass (see photo).
  • driver side door pocket has a broken plastic tab.
  • the driver front wheel may need to be rebalanced (feel some vibrations from time to time at highway speed).
While this car looks stunning, and it gets thumbs up everywhere I go, it is still over 25 years old and has some imperfections, this is a car that I enjoy driving once in a while as opposed to a car that is so pristine that you only trailer it to car shows, therefore it will have some wear accordingly. Car has always been garage since I bought it (I even avoid driving it on rainy days).

I have several older Bmw (including a couple other e30s), while this is the nicest one out of all of them, I really need the garage space and also no longer have time to drive and enjoy all my cars. I hope it finds a good home.
