1982 BMW 320i Turbo with 26950 MILES !!
1982 BMW 3-Series Description
Stored in Iowa pole barn since 2008, I just purchased this BMW 320 i from the estate of the 85 yr old owner. Added fresh premium gas and it started right up idling smoothly at 1100 rpm with no smoke, I did accelerate to 3500 rpm with no issues but will not drive further because it no doubt still has the original timing belt. I have driven it a total of eight blocks (to and from the gas station) plus 4 miles to get it up to 55 mph in 5th gear. . In my 2 weeks of ownership I have used ONLY water, Dawn detergent, an old Electrolux vacuum and my 75 year old arms on this nifty old car. NO polish, no wax, no touch up paint, no ArmorAll...etc. to hamper your ability to determine this car's true extraordinary condition. It has virtually every upgrade available in 1982.....all factory or dealer installed...probably when the car was new. At the time Century BMW in California was the largest BMW dealer in the USA and considered a "factory tuner". Options include a close ratio 5 speed, a sun roof, air conditioning, anti sway bars (25 mm - front and 20 mm rear), larger springs, Bilstein shocks, Recaro seats, Momo leather steering wheel, Enkei modular wheels, and a Century turbo-charger. Manual sunroof works great, Unfortunately....this "barn find" also included a VERY LARGE mouse nest in the glove compartment. I think I did a pretty good job of cleaning this up, but the interior still smells a bit "mousy". The carpet appears to be in very good condition but should be removed and shampooed. The headliner and visors are perfect. The rear shelf should probably be replaced. And the seats (Recaros I believe) need to be rebuilt or replaced. The chrome on the seat belts is a bitrusty from condensation. I already own a great Bimmer, (1987 325 IS) plus 5 other cars, 2 motorcycles, a motor home and a boat. So I am going to try to find a buyer for this one! Clean it up, store it, show it in local and national shows. Drive it very occasionally, enjoy it's originality and watch this under valued model triple in value while the auction crowd spends $50K, $100K or more restoring cars that are almost always worth less than half their restoration costs. They are only original once and this is a stunning "preservation class" candidate. Please don't restore this car or turn it into a "daily driver". There are plenty of high mileage BMW's out there to fill that need. Call me with your questions at 563-320-6501. I will be happy to text additional specific photos. I am about 20 minutes from the Moline, Illinois airport and will be glad to pick you up if you want to take a closer look. Shipping will be at the buyer's expense. Thank you for interest!!
