1987 BMW L6 / 635csi e24 Project
This E24 is being offered for sale ‘as is’ in non-running condition for restoration / driver preservation. Although the engine cranks over strong and fires with the use of starting fluid, the actual running condition cannot be verified due to a bad fuel pump & tank. The tank was removed to find significant corrosion around the fuel sending unit (top side) and cannot be reused. Evidence of this remains on the trunkfloor insulation as shown in the photos - the trunk is not rusted, just surface stained insulation. With the use of another fuel container, I was able to determine what I thought was the fuel pump priming upon ignition was actually the sound of the suspension pump... thefuel pump does not work. No evidence of any leaking fluids (oils, coolant). The brake pedal & e-brake still feels good and the vehicle rolls freely. All electrical functions such as the sunroof, windows, seats, lights, radio, gauge cluster appear to be in working order.
I'd acquired this car from the Owner of 24 years and have the original dealer stamped service book, radio manual w/ code along with many records included with a clean Ohio title. The ‘L’ designation for this model is luxury (moreleather) and has many interior attributes as leather door panels, leather headliner, & more that remain in very good condition. The front leather seats are excellent! The pair were recently reupholstered with genuine matching leather, have firm support / comfort, and all power functions work properly. However, the rear seats are missing. All other interior leather panels, roof liner, bulkhead & visors are in good condition. Interior is dry with plush, carpeting and has no signs of any leaks. The mileage notation on the title indicates "exceeds mechanical limits", but is believed to have been a recording error as shown in the vehicle history report. The body is in solid aged condition with limited corrosion at the rear quarter panels, passenger front fender (underside near rocker), and passenger rear taillight corner. Upon inspection & treatment of these areas, I discovered the underside of the car (floors, wheel wells & chassis) is in excellent condition for its age without any signs damage, collision or significant corrosion. Although worn & aged, the finish appears to be 90% + original paint with some minor parking dents. The doors, hood,deck-lid, and fenders have genuine BMW serial numbers / tags. The Driver's door latch is sticking from a sagging hinge & and does not shut completely, but does latch. The original front valance w/ foglights is in excellent condition. Chrome trim is bright and the rubber window & door seals remain soft / pliable. The original alloy rims including the spare are in excellent condition with expired Michelin tires. The trunk carpeting and spare tire cover is complete and in good condition. A nearly complete toolkit and a single original key (works all locks & ignition) is provided with this car.
