This is a RARE replica of a pre-war Bugatti inspired Moonraker from the Dri-Sleeve company in Warminster, iltshire, K. The company existed for one year (1971). They produced only (6) vehicles and then closed their doors due to the introduction of VAT (tariff tax). This vehicle is #6 - the last one ever made and the only one in the United States, ased on research. The original owner had it shipped to the US when he moved from the UK, here it was stored in a barn for many years. I am the second owner. It only has 651 original miles.
When I obtained the car, drove it approximately 100-125 miles. It hasn'tbeen on the road fora couple of years, ut I don't think it needs much work to get it back in running condition.
The body is all hand-formed aluminum except the very rear tail which is fiberglass. It has a 1.6 liter, -cyclinder Ford engine and a top-loader Ford 4-speed transmission. I believe it has a small (10-bolt) rear end. I also have a box of assorted new "extra" parts.
In addition to this rare replica, have the only blueprints in existence. Since the original owner knew he was buying the last car that Dri-Sleeve would ever make, e asked for the blueprints...and got them. I have pictures of the car on the assembly line, aving the engine installed in the chassis. I've attached a couple of photos.I also have the Hot Car magazine cover article reviewing the Moonraker, long with several other articles. It has beenstated that this is the closest replica to the Bugatti Type 37 that exists.
Just to share some of the Moonraker history that I've learned (at last check)...the 1st and 4thfactory-builds are owned by one of the people responsible for the design and construction of the prototype in the UK. The second factory-build went to a Rolls-Royce dealer in the Canary Islands. I believe one went to a museum in the UK. The last one is unaccounted for.
Mecum Auto Auctions (largest collector-car auction in the world) and Hagerty Auto Insurance Company (insurer of classic cars) were both contacted for help with valuing this vehicle. Neither company has had any experience with this particular vehicle because it is so rare and limited, ith no available sales records.
I've listed this Moonraker with a Reserve, ut there is some flexibility. If you are interested, lease message me.
This vehicle is located inIndiana. I prefer that the car is picked-up by the winning bidder, owever I am willing to ship it after full payment has been made and as long as the buyer makes all of the arrangements.
Thanks for looking.
