This information came from the original owner: “I placed the order in late 1969 for a GS Stage 1 through Burns Buick of Richmond Heights, Missouri. Color: Burnished Saddle; it still has the original factory interior, original factory vinyl top, power windows, power door locks, power steering, power brakes (front disc), air conditioning, AM-FM radio with front and rear speakers, 15×7 Rally wheels, white billboard lettered tires, the factory original spare is still in the trunk, original trunk liner, factory rear window defogger, rear view mirror map light, power drivers outside mirror is original. The GS was received January 16, 1970, as verified on the dealer service imprint car (which I still have).
Finished in a Metallic Burnished Saddle exterior, with some added metallic flakes, this GS shows very well with only minor blemishes. The windows (including factory rear defrost) and lights are all crack and haze free, including the under bumper Cibie-brand fog lights. The brown vinyl top is also in very good condition. This GS runs on BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires on factory rally wheels all the way around.
Step inside, and you’ll notice the original front and rear vinyl bench seats are in fantastic shape and even include headrests for the front! Note 2″ split on driver seat cushion. This GS was packed with options from the factory, including: power windows & locks, sport gauges, AM/FM radio, air conditioning, as well as seat belts with shoulder belts.
The factory replacement engine in this Buick is a V8 with all kinds of upgrades over stock. It features Kenne-Bell Performance parts for reliability, a high-pressure high-volume oil pump, steel timing gear, lifters and push rods, B4BJ aluminum intake, 1,000 CFM ThermoQuad carburetor, electric fuel pump, and the heads have milled and relieved. The exhaust setup is Mickey Thompson Super Scavenger long tube headers and low restriction mufflers. The car is equipped with air conditioning but it does not blow cold.
The 1968 model year was one of significant change for the Buick Skylark. Although still using the same basic chassis, all of GM’s mid-sized cars adopted a policy of using two different length wheelbases. Two-door models used a shorter wheelbase of 112 in (2,845 mm), while four-door models used a longer wheelbase of 116 in.
The Buick Gran Sport, previously an option package available on the Skylark, became a separate series, starting with the 340 hp/440 lbs torque 400 c.i.d. V8 1968 GS 400, using the 2 door Skylark body and chassis. In a reshuffling of models in the lineup, the Special Deluxe replaced the previous Special. The Skylark nameplate was shuffled down a notch to replace the previous Special Deluxe.
This car is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer shows 24,193 miles. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear, exempt mileage title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
