1970 Buick Skylark Gran Sport Stage 2 Description

The legendary Stage 2! The secret is out. The 70 Stage 1 is the quickest GM A-body. Take that mild Manner(ed) street car and add the Factory Stage 2 package. You have a BEAST capable of 10 sec quarter mile times. Guaranteed to dominate the competition. Which is what Coyote has done with multiple National records and other Stage 2 Buicks have had similar success winning records and putting some hurt on the racer in the other lane.

Coyote is an example of one of a few cars known to exist. A documented Kennedy Bell Stage 2 test car. ALL 3 of those carsleft the Flint assembly line as Stage 1 cars and were converted to Stage 2 specs later. Coyote is a documented special-order low option Stage 1 destined to be a quarter mile warrior from day one and not a street car. I am the 4th owner of this beauty. I purchased it as a turn key drag car in 1999with much of the history being unknown with 1,530 miles. At that time the car was known as the "Turner car". Jimmy Turner was the (3rd) owner, driver, engine builder and fierce competitor who gained recognition with "Ol Blu" as he affectionately refers hisold friend. The notoriety at the track came in the form of trophies, plaques, magazine features, and multiple National records that gained a lot of attention and respect for The Stage 2 and Buicks in general.

Documented as a factory-built Stage 1 by the GS Historical Society. The original drivetrain was sacrificed to the racing gods and currently has a fresh 70 455 and TH400 with under 2000 miles on them. All the Factory Stage 2 parts are present and accounted for. Denny Manner a retired Buick Engineer (involved in the Stage 2 program) authenticated the Stage 2 components to all be correct. Which include the Stage 2 heads, Kustom brand 2 1/8 Stage 2 headers, Stage 2 cam, correct early style B4B, period correct Holley 4781, Stage 2 pistons (not installed), and4.78 Ring and pinion (not installed). The weak factory 8.2 10 bolt has been replaced with stronger a Chevy 12 bolt (4.10) as with the other Stage 2 cars. ** Also note that the hood scoop was never assigned a part number and NEVER sold as part of the Stage 2 package **

The car’s ownership history is known from new. Bobby Joe Thetford from Tx ordered Coyote from Dunn Buick in Oklahoma City in late 69. Thetford was too busy with work so his buddy Bill Holman from Tx was the driver for the car. When Thetford died in 73 Holman purchased Coyote for him and his sons to race. After a massive wheelie damaged the oil pan and hurt the motor Coyote was shoved in the back of the shop for a number of years... Jim Turner from Tx happened to be in the right place and the right time in 1984 and was able to purchase the old drag car with a trunk full of Stage 2 parts. Jimmy went on to do great things with Ol Blu. I purchased the car in 1999 from Jimmy. It was a turn key 10 sec Stage 2 car that was complete and never had been abused, rusted or wrecked. Coyote has all its Born-with Sheetmetal. The original Acid dipped front fenders are not mounted on the car but ARE included.

There are some extras that belong with the car that also are included: The roll bar, the original polished Cragar Supertricks, Kenne-Bell valve covers, oil pan, and crank pulley. The TH350 and custom ram air cleaner from the headlights, Carter TQ1000 carb, the mid ten sec Qjet, the original acid dipped fenders, other misc stuff that was removed for racing, aforementioned documentation, pictures, articles, plaques, records, trophies and 1973 Kenne - Bell catalog featuring Coyote

I purchased Coyote in 1999. The old warrior was straight and solid with never having any rust. Performed a professional frame off restoration. I used rust free 70 date coded fenders on the car because the original Acid dipped fenders werea concern for quality and durability (like tinfoil) but I still have them, stripped to bare metal. The modified rear wheel openings and ends of the rocker panels were returned to factory. Extra care was spent on panel alignment, fit and gaps. Refinished in the correct code 28 Diplomat blue. I raced the Buick GS for a couple seasons. Then it was stored indoors for over a decade. During the hibernation It was discovered that the carwith the rare factory Stage 2 parts known as Turners Ol Blu was originally the Coyote Kennedy- Bell car and has been documented by Jim Bell. After 2015 Coyote was re-lettered the same as the picture from 1970. Being displayed at 2016 MCACN, the car won Gold with a score of 985 / 1000 points. The glove box door has been signed by Jimmy Turner, Jim Bell, and Denny Manner in respect of the cars history.

I encourage anyone interested please make an appointment to see Coyote in person. The vehicle is being sold as is where it is. I will assist with what shipping arrangements made by the purchaser. Any questions pls call my cell (630)8780862 or email Stage2buick(a)gmail.com

I have a video of the car if you would like to hear it

One of the pictures is of Ol blu after the restoration and before the transformation back to Coyote. Using period correct parts can have its drawbacks. The vintage Sun tach and the vintage SW temp gauge are not working and will need attention.
