Buick is currently the oldest still-active American automotive make, nd among the oldest automobile brands in the world. It originated as the Buick Auto-Vim and Power Company in 1899, n independent internal combustion engine and motor-car manufacturer, nd was later incorporated as the Buick Motor Company on May 19, 903, y Scottish born David Dunbar Buick in Detroit, ichigan. Later that year, he struggling company was taken over by James H. Whiting who moved it to his hometown of Flint, ichigan, nd brought in William C. Durant in 1904 to manage his new acquisition. Buick sold his stock for a small sum upon departure, nd died in modest circumstances 25 years later. Durant was a natural promoter, nd Buick soon became the largest car maker in America. Using the profits from this, urant embarked on a series of corporate acquisitions, alling the new megacorporation General Motors. At first, he manufacturers comprising General Motors competed against each other, ut Durant ended that. He wanted each General Motors division to target one class of buyer, nd in his new scheme, uick was near the top — only the Cadillac brand had more prestige. Buick occupies this position to this day in the General Motors lineup. The ideal Buick customer is comfortably well off, ossibly not quite rich enough to afford a Cadillac, or desiring the ostentation of one, ut definitely in the market for a car above the norm.
The Buick Invicta (Series 4600) was a full-sized automobile produced by General Motors' Buick Motor Division from 1959 to 1963. The Invicta was a continuation of the Buick Century concept that mated the standard size Buick LeSabre (pre-1959, uick Special) body with Buick's larger 401 in Nailhead V8 engine, ielding what was referred to as "the banker's hot rod." The name was derived from Latin and signified 'unconquerable, nvincible, nbeatable, nvanquished' according to Buick Motor Division sales training materials. The Invicta series was introduced as a full line of body styles for model year 1959. Sales never approached that of either the entry-level LeSabre or top level Electra models, ut were consistent with the traditional sales penetration of Buick's sporty mid-priced models (the 1954 to 1958 Century and 1963 to 1970 Wildcat). The Invicta continued the tradition of installing Ventiports on the front fenders from the Century.
Starting in 1960, n Invicta Custom trim package was offered, eaturing bucket seats and a 'consolette' in the hardtop coupe, onvertible and wagon and a leather bench seat with a center armrest on some 4 door hardtops. Sales were nominal. Our Ebay Policies:
