While we typically deal with slightly older cars, we recently had an opportunity to purchase a collection of five first-year (‘85) IROC-Zs and just couldn’t pass it up. Of the five cars, this one is arguably the best of the bunch. This car is completely original, is in absolutely phenomenal condition inside, out, and underneath, and drives great. It is ready to be enjoyed by its next owner, regardless of whether they intend to retire the car to a collection or use it as a daily driver. Exterior: Red paint is original throughout, as confirmed with an elcometer. Elcometer readings range from 1.8-3.0 across the entire car. There truly are almost no blemishes. The only imperfections on the car are a missing letter in the “TUNED PORT INJECTION” badge on the rear bumper, a spot on the passenger side mirror where the paint was buffed thin (we can respray if desired), and a tiny rock chip that has been touched up over the passenger rear wheel (only visible upon close inspection). No dings, no scratches, no scuffs. This car is CLEAN. Weatherstripping is all in excellent shape. All glass and light lenses are clear and crack free. There is no signs of clear coat aging whatsoever. Wheels are in great shape as well, with no curb rash. Interior: The interior presents extremely well. Black and grey Conteur bucket seats look and feel close to new both front and rear. There is no scuffing on the outer bolsters and no tears or stains. There’s a tiny, tiny hole on the passenger seat bottom, which you can see in the photos. Black carpeting is in A+ condition. All powered systems are functional; this includes power locks, power windows, air conditioning, AM/FM radio, heat, fan, front and rear defrost, all lights inside and out, wipers, cruise, and all gauges. T-tops are in excellent shape and are easily removed, a one man job. Dash is in nearly perfect; the only blemish is a hairline crack on the lower dash, over by the top right corner of the blower controls. Odometer reads 28,450 miles and is accurate based on known ownership history, the phenomenal condition of the car, and the level of originality. Under the Hood / Underbody: Please take a good look through the underbody photos of the car, as it’s documented in detail and is in impressive shape. Shocks still shine bright yellow. There is no damage of any sort. There is a couple minor spots of rust on the exhaust, and that’s it for rust. The floors and frame rails are in excellent shape. This car has clearly been garage kept and babied. The Z28 IROC-Z came with a 5.0L 305cid V8 with tuned port injection, good enough for 215hp. While that doesn’t sound like a whole lot, the car makes the most of it, and is plenty quick. Even with the automatic transmission, the car will happily wind out and is always willing to break traction. There are no noises or tendencies of concern, this car runs and drives extremely well. It fires right up, idles cool and steady, doesn’t stutter under acceleration, tracks and brakes straight. Goodyear Eagle GT4s are in good condition up front, with about 75% tread remaining. Rear tires have less tread, closer to 40%. Overall, this ‘85 IROC-Z is an extremely clean, well-optioned, and original example with only 28k miles.
