1989 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible Description

OVERVIEW: This beautiful blue on blue Corvette Convertible was purchased new by famed horror author Stephen King and his wife Tabitha King. It is in amazing condition with a mere 14,803 original miles as of the listing date. This is an extremely rare find for the die-hard Stephen King fan. We can also consider interesting trades -- especially classic sports cars and full-size pick-ups and SUV's. Feel free to call us at 352-283-0268.

HISTORY AND DOCUMENTATION: Stephen King bought this Corvette brand-new in Maine for his wife Tabitha in 1989, the year he filmed Pet Semetary. In 2005, they brought the car to their Florida home where it remained with them until December 2012. Mr. King is a very private person and would not sell the car with their name on the title. They instead transferred it through their car detailer's name, which made me the third owner. Included with this car are copies of Florida DMV records and the insurance identification card showing that it was indeed owned by Stephen King and Tabitha King. Based on those records, the perfect AutoCheck report, and information provided by Mr. King's car detailer, the Kings owned this Corvette for 23 years (1989 - 2012). I have had it in my collection for the past five and one-half years.

CONDITION: This car is in truly remarkable original condition, both mechanically and cosmetically. It has been very well maintained and is a pleasure to drive. I believe this car is all original except for the brand-new Goodyear Eagle tires that were installed two weeks ago (the same brand and type that were on the car.) The tires that were on the car looked practically new, but I worried they were too old for safe highway driving. The old tires were on the car when I took the pictures (so you can see how nice they looked), and I kept them just in case the new owner would like to have them included with the car.

I am extremely picky and this car has very few flaws. The only things of note are: (1) some radio interference can be heard from the original sound system (which is common for original C4 Corvette radios and doesn't bother me when I drive); and (2) the original paint on the front bumper looks to be a slightly different shade from the rest of the paint -- this is considered normal from the factory because paint on the original urethane bumper often looks slightly different from paint on the fiberglass body. I have had it looked at by a paint shop and was told that it appears to be original factory paint, and the slight difference is expected on an original.

TITLE TRANSFER AND PAPERWORK: I am a long-time classic car hobbyist and a licensed Florida car dealer (Classic Investment Motorcars Inc.) This means that you must complete the required sales and title transfer forms with me, which can be done in person or through the mail. The car cannot be released until I have received all completed paperwork and payment in full.

DOCUMENTATION FEE: A flat fee of $100 is charged on all vehicle purchases to help cover postage, paperwork, vehicle preparation, and other costs. Please understand that this fee cannot be waived. This fee applies regardless of whether you are an individual or a dealer.

SALES TAX: If the vehicle is shipped out of Florida by common carrier or freight forwarder I will not need to collect sales tax (you will take care of that where you live.) If you live in Florida, or pick up the car in Florida, then I am required to collect applicable sales tax and tag/title fees. If you live in another state and pick up the car here, most states will give you credit for the sales tax I collect (in this case the sales tax rate will be the lesser of 6% or the rate that applies to you in your state.) Please feel free to contact me before bidding to find out how the tax rules will apply for your individual state.

DEPOSIT AND PAYMENT: A $500 non-refundable PayPal deposit is due within 24 hours of the end of the listing. The balance must be paid by cash, cashier’s check, or wire transfer within seven days. All cashier’s checks must clear my bank before the vehicle can be released. If the buyer does not pay in accordance with these requirements, I may, at my option, make second-chance offers or re-list/remarket the vehicle and the deposit will be forfeited by the buyer.

SHIPPING: Arranging and paying for shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. We are happy to cooperate with any shipping company you choose, domestic or international. We may also be able to help you arrange shipping at a good price, but the responsibility will remain with you.

THIS VEHICLE IS BEING SOLD AS-IS, WHERE-IS, WITH NO WARRANTY, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. Please feel free to come inspect the car in person or to have it inspected by a third-party inspection service. Cars are shown by appointment only, but we are available most days. Please note that if you are the winning buyer you will have entered into a binding contract to complete the purchase in accordance with eBay rules. The sale location is Bell, Florida, Florida law governs, and venue lies exclusively in Gilchrist County, Florida.
