1989 Chevrolet 1500 ScottsDale Description

Up for sale is a family friends Original Owner 1989 Chevy 1500 "Heavy Chevy" Scottsdale 4WD Long-Bed Pickup. The owner bought this gem brand new from Kool Chevrolet in Okemos, Mi. The day the truck was purchased, it was driven to B&L in Potterville, MI to have the topper installed on it. This truck has been daily / weekly driven ever since purchasing! Currently the truck is nearing 180,000 miles and 95% original. I do still drive the truck occasionally, so mileage will go up some. With the truck being 30 years old and the owner now well in his 70's, he's upgrading to a newer truck to make trips back and forth to cabin up north. (Most of the 180K are highway miles from Lansing, Mi to Blanchard, MI) I am helping him sell this beautiful truck and I hope someone will enjoy this truck as much as he has over the past 30 years. Comes with all original manuals and Window Sticker showing its fancy purchase price of $16,806 30 years ago! I can't express how well this truck has been loved / cared for and hope the pictures give it some justice.
Engine / Drivetrain: Truck is equipped with GM's bulletproof 5.7L (350) engine which runs flawless!! I drove her back from Lansing a week ago and she never missed a beat cruising down the highway at 65-70mph for 80 miles. The truck accelerates and cruises great down the road! The 4wd shifts smoothly between 4Hi, 4Lo and 2WD. (Truck always had full fluid services every 7-8 years) The transmission shifts firm and feels great! No clunks or noises of any kind through engine, transmission, driveshaft or rear end! Would trust this truck to be driven anywhere!
The truck always received proper maintenance with regular oil changes and bi-yearly tune-ups. With this being owned by older gentleman a his only 4wd vehicle - he dotted every I and crossed every T to keep it in tip top shape. The truck has never been stored or restored. She is a true survivor which has been regularly driven approximately 6500 miles / year.
The truck will drip a drop of oil every week or so if parked in same spot. If it does sit for a few days / week, it will have a very brief puff of blue smoke when started. This is oil burning off but if driven regularly, vehicle doesn't experience any oil consumption of any kind.
Suspension / Chassis: This truck is pretty unique in the sense of it being a "Heavy Chevy". This basically means the truck is a 1500 HD. The truck has the following installed from factory: Heavy Duty Front Springs, HD Radiator and Trans cooler, Heavy Duty Chassis, Trailer Brake (still works great), Higher Strength Sidewall Tires, Heavy Duty Heater, 3.42 rear end, Gabriel Air Shocks (air nipple by license plate) and wired for second 12V battery. (all these are upgrades on the Window Sticker). The suspension is mostly original and very sound. Again, no clunks or rattles when going over bumps, steering, etc. I have inspected all bushings, ball joints, tie rods, hubs, etc. and everything looks great. Driving the truck supports this.
The frame has some surface rust on it but is very solid and structural. If the weather was warmer, I would put a wire brush to it to knock off the rust and paint it. If I decide to keep the truck until spring, I will do this. With a little TLC on the frame, this could be a show truck. Hard to find vehicles in this kind of shape which have survived for 30 years! Don't let this gem slip away!
Brakes/ Tires: The brakes on the truck are wonderful! Major stopping power with lots of pad life and rotors look great! The brake lines have been replaced within the last 3 years and still look brand new.The Mickey Thompson tires are about 6-7 years old but still have great tread. Truck has always been kept in temperature-controlled garage so the tires don't show their age. If truck isn't driven regularly, you will need to top off the tires monthly a few PSI. I believe the air leaks around the bead a bit. The truck comes with original Grey wheels with beauty rings and center caps. They are also in great shape. No tires are installed on original wheels.
Body: The body on the truck is in great shape! I would rate it a 9/10 for the trucks age. The truck only has one dent on it which I have noticed. The truck has been taken to body shop and had the rust fixed on it 3-4 times over the 30 years. The cab corners, rockers, etc are very solid and look great! There are few minor bubbles of rust along the rear wheel wells which just popped the last year or so. Passenger door has couple minor bubbles of rust and one spot on the rocker. Rust was last touched up 4 years ago - with the condition of the truck, it's worth having them fixed again to preserve this gem! Tailgate was replaced 3 years ago and look absolutely stunning. Being 30 years old, the paint has had rock chips touched up using a paint pen so you can see them if up really close. You must be within 1-2 feet of the car to notice the touch-ups. If you are 5 feet away from this truck, it looks absolutely beautiful with deep shine and turns heads wherever its driven. I guaranteed about 75% of people have owned a truck from this generation and they will talk to you about missing their truck when they see this one! Happens nearly every timeI drive it! The cab can probably use a set of Cab mounts as I'm sure they are original and the bed sits slightly higher.
Interior: I would also give the interior a 9/10. The cloth bench seat is in great shape with very minor rips in the driver side of the bench seat. The headliner is sagging and held up with some pins. I am planning to fix this if I have time prior to selling the truck. The floor shows some wear but still in excellent shape. Take a quick hand broom or dust buster and the floor looks great. This is one of those "easy" trucks to keep clean - no carpet to worry about cleaning in this baby! All power options work as they should, including Radio, gages and gage lights, fan, lights, turn signals, heat, intermittent wipers, etc. The truck does have a crack in the windshield which is pretty low. Doesn't bother me driving it and has been this way for 2 years.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I can provide pictures of anything you request. I am a very honest seller as this description probably resembles. I want people to know EXACTLY what they are getting with no surprises. Truck has Clean and Clear Michigan Title! I have done some looking online and haven't found any other trucks options this way. I feel it is pretty rare. This truck is also very easy to work on. Change Plugs and wires in 20 minutes! Can't beat the simplicity of this truck and having the space to easily work on it! Don't make trucks like this anymore today! I have known this truck for about 6-8 years and will be sad to see her go. Hope she goes to a home which cares for her and appreciates the effort taken to keep it this clean.
Thanks for looking!
