It made a comeback in 1964 and hung around until 1987. Its official class was a coupe utility, or coupe utility muscle car. It was a response to the success of the Ford Ranchero, and was basically a station wagon with a truck bed as opposed to an...enclosed cargo area. From 1964 to 1977 the El Camino was based on the Chevelle platform, and from 1978 to 1987 it was based on the GM G-Body platform. To this day people do not know whether to call it a car or a truck, which has led many folks to refer to it simply as a 'Caruck' (pronounced Ka-Ruck)Not only is the engine in this 64’ El Camino a 454 CID big block V8, but it also features L68 heads, an aluminum intake, a Holley carburetor, and a K&N filter.
