The previous owners said that the first picture you see of a 48 with dark green fenders is very similar to the Woody when they received it...it is posted just to give a better idea of what the vehicle looks like when together..it is not intended in any way to mislead the buyer as to current condition of what is being offered...the Red pictured Woody was disassembled nearly 50 years ago and will require a full assembly of the wood body parts that are present and usable plus those that are missing including the bass wood slats.
Our church purchased these 3 vehicles so that one 1948 Chevrolet Woody Station Wagon could be restored from the ground up as a fund raiser....after the sale, the money raised was going to be used to purchase food, clothing and other items of personal need for men and women who must live on the streets. Tragically, a short time after all the vehicles were gathered together to begin the project, 2 brothers who were both skilled wood craftsmen and were going to build the Woody body for us, were killed in an auto accident. We have decided to sell all the parts that have been collected as a package to someone who has dreamed of owning this very rare and potentially very valuable vehicle. Again, this project will require creation of some wood sections not now present and restoration repairs to some that are. When the doors, hinge posts and other included pieces are mocked up, it becomes apparent what needs to be fabricated for the tailgate, liftgate and roof.....we can send detailed pictures from this other dark green 48 that can be used to design the rest....if you had an opportunity to find a 47 or 48 Chevy Woody chassis and had to have someone build just the body from scratch, most people we spoke to said that the costs of labor and materials would likely be in the $15K-$19k range....and then you would have to install it, fit it, and finish itAs was mentioned earlier, the previous owner of the 4 door sedan spent $8K on the work and parts just to restore the beautiful chassis and the sedan body..it is finished in a gun-metal metallic grey paint ...We would certainly suggest taking the engine down for examination, replacing gaskets, etc. there is no guarantee, implied or expressed as to the running condition at this moment of the work that was done...all parts that we have will go with the package...we will not separate any parts to sell by themselves...the set of correct original wheels and tires that are in the first picture will be included....along with several extra fenders, hoods and other parts in case someone wants to perhaps also build the sedan, or sell it separately to recover some funds. The sedan body itself in nearly flawless, dent and rust free..The original plan was to swap bodies and build the Red Woody on the restored sedan chassis. Fully restored 1948 Chevrolet Woody Wagons have sold for $60K and more..they are far more rare than Fords and you likely will never find another original builder this complete for under $20K,....... most definitely not under $10K !
Please note that our new Buy It Now price of $7995. includes everything in this ad a is just slightly below the chassis and body restoration cost alone..in that sense the 2 Woody chassis, the 3 seats and all the Wood body parts are included FOR FREE!....most project Woodys for sale with far less wood intact typically are for sale for thousands more and do not include the chassis work...sadly, we just need to move on..that same original profit/investment potential for the church to raise alot of money now goes directly to a new owner..Good luck!
