It was ordered to Debut at the Daytona Continental GT Race Feb 16th 1964 plus the American Challenge International Sports Car Race Feb 15th 1964. Famous Race Car Driver Jerry Grant Drove this Cheetah and only was able to qualify it due to running off the track and damaging the front bonnet and very front frame section. Before Grant ran off coarse he was clocked at speeds of 187 thru 215 MPH recounted Don Edmunds. Nothing running there that week came even close to these speeds.Considering the Thomas Cheetah weight of 1520 Lbs and the complete Aluminum Experimental GM drive line it all makes perfect sense.Originally built with Experimental 1962 early GM Aluminum Grand Sport engine (1st design) with the most Exotic induction system of it's time 58mm Weber cross ram side draft option.Transmission was the prototype Muncie M22 4 speed and Experimental Aluminum Grand Sport 2.92 ratio rear end assembly. Thomas installed the largest GM radiator available from R&D the 1962 Pontiac NASCAR radiator. (3) Special aluminum air deflector panels were installed to force air through the radiator. Triple Aluminum fuel tank setup and Thomas installed Good/Year Blue Streak Stock Car Specials on American Racing Magnesium 5 spoke wheels. Since this Cheetah would be the first to receive sponsorship from the BARDAHL Oil Company Alan Green picked the BARDAHL Colors Chrome Yellow and Black with the numbers in RED. All lettering & numbers hand painted as delivered. For preservation reasons we have the 1962 #19 GM Experimental Aluminum engine on a Show Cart due to it's extreme rarity today. We completed the restoration with a correct dated replacement Corvette 327 block and utilized a set of Genuine Thomas cylinder heads and Thomas dual air meter injection unit. Also we used the early 1963 Muncie 4 speed. The rear end assembly is Genuine GM R&D assembly FL Coded 2.92 experimental gears for Daytona track.
